Ethic Intolerance Did you ever think that a Fanatic Egalitarian utopia and a Fanatic Authoritarian slave-state should get along just fine? Nah, me neither. In vanilla, empires on the exact opposite ends of the ethics spectrum are barely bothered by each other. A galaxy of wildly different ideologies drifts into peaceful coexistence far too easily. Ethic Intolerance turns opposing ideologies into what they should be: a real source of friction. What it does Opinion penalties now scale with how fanatical both sides are, across all four ethics axes (Authoritarian–Egalitarian, Xenophobe–Xenophile, Militarist–Pacifist, Spiritualist–Materialist): Fanatic vs. Fanatic on opposite poles → −750 (effectively irreconcilable) Fanatic vs. Regular → −300 Regular vs. Regular → −150 (noticeable, but bridgeable with diplomacy) The more ideologically opposed two empires are, the more these stack — a total ideological opposite becomes a natural enemy, not a future federation partner. The galaxy stops being one big happy family and starts having sides. Lightweight & compatible Adds only new opinion modifiers — overwrites nothing in the base game. No overwritten vanilla files, no events, no scripts. Pure additive data. Compatible with virtually everything, including overhauls. Load order doesn't matter. Safe to add to an ongoing save. How to tell it's working Open the diplomacy window of an empire on the opposite end of an axis and hover the opinion value. You'll see named lines like "Irreconcilable: Order vs. Freedom" or "Clashing Ideals: Faith vs. Reason" in the breakdown. More to come This is the ideology layer. I'm happy to build submods that push it further if there's interest — for example, giving Barbaric Despoilers and similar civics real diplomatic bite (they shouldn't be welcome at the table by default), or making acts like assimilating another species carry heavier diplomatic consequences.
