BetterSaving — Reduced Save Lag for StarRupture

Greatly reduces save lag by moving most save processing off the game thread, minimising freezes during saving.

What It Does

By default, StarRupture can freeze while saving — especially with large save files.

BetterSaving replaces most of the blocking save process with an asynchronous pipeline, resulting in:

• []Significantly reduced frame hitches during saves[/]

  []Background processing for serialization, compression, and Steam Cloud writes[/]

  []Smoother gameplay during autosaves[/]

  A small amount of work still occurs on the game thread, so minor freezes may still happen — but large freezes are greatly reduced.

  Example: a save that normally takes ~10 seconds may take around ~1. 5 seconds with this plugin.

  On the client, an optional on-screen widget shows save progress (Queued → Compressing → Writing → Done/Failed).

  Installation

  • []Download the file from the Files tab[/]

    []Open the ZIP file[/]

    []Copy the contents of the included Plugins folder into:

    "StarRupture\Binaries\Win64\ModLoader\Plugins"[/]

    []Launch the game once to generate the config file[/]

    []Open:

    "Plugins\config\BetterSaving.ini"[/]

    []Ensure:

    "Enabled=true"[/]

    • []Enabled — enable/disable the plugin (true/false)[/]

      []ShowSaveWidget — toggle the on-screen save progress widget[/]

      The widget can also be toggled in-game via the mod settings menu.

      Troubleshooting

      • []No save widget — make sure "ShowSaveWidget=true" or enable it in settings[/]

        []Plugin not loading — check "modloader.log in Binaries\Win64\"[/]

        []Saves failing — ensure Steam is running and check logs for errors[/]

        []Issues after game update — the plugin may need updating due to internal changes[/]
