June 2026 Update:
If you're following the mod, you're aware that I intended to have 5. 0. 0 out by the end of 2025. So what happened?
Well, at some point in 2025 I felt something I hadn't experienced before in my modding journey. I guess you could call it 'integration fatigue'. Every new feature I conceptualised had to be integrated into every existing system in Druid, and all those systems were also integrated into vanilla systems. A lot of the code I was using was from my time as an amateur modder experimenting with SMAPI. So I began rebuilding everything, basically, to make development easier in the long run. There was a lot of refactor, but eventually what emerged is faster, more stable, less prone to jankiness or crashes, more powerful and also seamless with vanilla. That work is mostly complete now, so I think beta development will be more frequent from now on. In saying that, here's a roadmap:
August 2026: Distillery, Monsters, Jester (Halfway point)
October 2026: Rite of the Fates, Rite of the Voide, Shadowtin
December 2026: Rite of Crows, Blackfeather
February 2027: Rite of Ether, Aldebaran ~~ Release 5. 0 to Nexus ~~
April 2027: Final storyline quests
June 2027: Side quests/Final polish
So basically, I am aiming for one rite every two months, and will try to finish up development on Druid a year from now. That is also the 4th anniversary from when I started modding.
These are some of the biggest changes to the mod in the rebuild:
More ways to engage with creatures and NPCs with a unique dialogue system that enables trade and conversation.
New rites and rite effects, including passive/map-wide effects.
A comprehensive skills system, with 80 masteries to choose and many ways to earn experience.
An expanded alchemy and crafting system based on 36 unique items.
A vastly improved distillery and monster taming system.
A complete overhaul of spritework, animations, companions, sound effects and location designs.
A finished storyline.
