📋 About This Mod

Basically, stuff that are occluded by the fog and are not visible, are culled, saving memory and improving performance.

For obvious reasons, performance gains depend on your hardware, but generally, all hardware configurations should benefit from this mod.

Guaranteed performance improvement for Dead Money and Point Lookout, since those areas have thick fog, and the mod was made with them in mind.

(Ironically enough, Point Lookout's gains are not as impressive because the main bottleneck is caused by... water. Fix for that will be soon™️ in another mod.)

Mod adjusts following settings:

  • []Object distance

    []Actor distance

    []Item distance

    []Grass distance

    []Decal distance

I haven't found other render distance settings impactful on performance in any meaningful way.

So far, the biggest offenders are obviously objects, decals, and lights.

You won't be able to adjust draw distance settings in-game!

Mod uses your existing values as maximum range.

Compatibility:

Uh, everything? This an engine level override.

  • []I use fog distance mod name here, will this affect me?

If your fog is shorter than 15000, yes. If it's above that, no.

JIP LN for having uh, easy to copy classes.

✨ Key Features

Dynamically adjusts draw distance in accordance with fog density
Improves performance with little to no visual difference
High community trust with 6,383 endorsements and 1.1M downloads

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Massive community adoption (1.1M downloads) — this is a proven performance booster
  • 6,383 endorsements show it's widely appreciated by players
  • Clever approach: uses fog to hide culling, so you barely notice the trade-off

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in January 2023 — might not be optimized for the latest game patches
  • Performance gains depend on fog presence; in clear weather you might see little benefit
🎯 Is This For You?
For players with mid-range rigs who want smoother framerates without cranking down graphics settings. Also great for anyone who hates pop-in but wants better performance. Skip if you play in modded worlds with custom weather that removes fog — the effect may be inconsistent.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Check if your game has a mod manager (like Vortex) — if so, install with one click; otherwise, drop the files into your Data folder manually.
  • Test in foggy areas first to see the performance boost; if you notice objects popping in too early, you might need to adjust your fog settings in-game.
  • If you're using other performance mods, try this one alone first to see the difference — stacking too many can cause conflicts.
