📋 About This Mod
Disables shadows, lighting and raytraycing. This increases performance and as a side effect also makes the interiors brighter.
Warnings
-
[]Disabling lighting and shadows also makes some areas that are supposed to be dark a lot brighter (or basically the same as outside). This means you can loose some of the "dark" atmosphere in interiors and especially in mines.[/]
[]One user reported increased GPU temperature when using this configuration. Be cautions of this and check for yourself if this happens to you as well. If it does and the temperature is out of any acceptable range (according to Google the temperature under heavy load should be around 65-80 degrees Celsius and anything beyond 85 degrees might mean overheating or the GPU itself will start throtting performance) just stay safe and don't use this.[/]
Description
Disables some technologies used in UE5 to enable better performance. More specifically shadows, lighting (Lumen), RayTracing and Nanite. The goal is to be able to smoothly run the game on low end PC (under minimal requirements). Keep in mind that
My issue was that I was able to run the game on low settings with AMD FSR on nice 30-40 FPS. However, when I reached the Old Camp (especially during the day) the FPS would start dropping. I realized that I dropped to 10 FPS even standing still in the Old Camp starting at an outer wall. If I turned around and stared at the camp itself the FPS would jump back to 30. Then I realized that the outer wall had one pixelated shadow moving across it. This was the shadow of the entire Old Camp castle and apparently it was causing the massive FPS drop. Additionally when initiating talks with NPC inside the camp when the camera moves around the FPS would drop as well. I tried applying other performance engine tweaks and it helped a bit, but the main issue with stutters and FPS drops inside Old Camp remained.
Therefore I decided to disable all of those shadows and lighting effects. Currently with those changes (+ some others from other mods, see shoutouts at the end) the game runs much more smoothly for me (around 40-60 FPS) even inside the Old Camp.
