WHAT THIS MOD DOES

Replaces GameUserSettings.ini graphics sections and adds a tuned Engine.ini for each performance tier. Your resolution, field of view, language, audio volumes, and benchmark results are preserved when following the merge guide.

PRESETS INCLUDED

01 Minimum - lowest playable settings for very weak hardware

02 Low - low quality with modest improvements over Minimum

03 Medium - balanced settings for most PCs targeting 60 FPS

04 High - high quality, recommended for 8GB VRAM graphics cards

05 Ultra Max - maximum software Lumen quality without hardware ray tracing

06 Potato - emergency mode at 40 percent render scale for extremely weak GPUs

07 AMD FSR - Medium preset with AMD FSR Quality upscaling enabled

WHY NO HARDWARE RAY TRACING

Enabling r. RayTracing or r. Lumen. HardwareRayTracing can cause a fatal crash in the shipping build with an OIDN shader error (Missing global shader FTransferFunctionOidnCS). All presets keep both values at zero. Ultra Max maximizes software Lumen only.

INSTALLATION

1. Close Gothic 1 Remake (process: G1R-Win64-Shipping.exe)

2. Navigate to your config folder (launch game once if folder missing)

3. Backup existing GameUserSettings.ini and Engine.ini

4. Open the preset folder you want

5. Merge GameUserSettings.ini per WHAT_TO_REPLACE.txt (keep your resolution lines)

6. Copy Engine.ini to config folder

7. Set Engine.ini to Read-only in file Properties (critical - game deletes it otherwise)

8. Launch and test

RECOMMENDED PRESET BY HARDWARE

4GB VRAM or older GPU: Potato or Minimum

6GB VRAM: Low or Medium

8GB VRAM: High (not Ultra Max)

12GB VRAM or better: Ultra Max

AMD GPU owners: try 07 AMD FSR for free performance via FSR Quality mode.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Engine.ini deleted after playing: set Read-only attribute on Engine.ini

Crash on startup: add -dx11 to Steam launch options

Stuttering first launch: normal shader compilation, wait it out

OIDN crash: verify r. RayTracing=0 and r. Lumen. HardwareRayTracing=0 in Engine.ini

No game files are modified. AppData config only. Safe to remove by restoring backups.
