Overview
(Adds new snap points to vanilla ship parts where it felt like they were missing. Largely stays within the grid established so far.)
It is recommended that you use another mod or adjust your INI manually ("Spaceship" section, "fShipBuilderModuleOverlapTolerance" setting) to set your tolerances to something like -1. 0 (default is -0. 25), otherwise some snaps may not be usable.
For flips and rotations, see another of my mods, Better Ship Part Flips, or use Ship Module Snap Expansion - SMSEX.
(For mod authors): Data structures modified or added: MSTT, STMP
Compatibility:
Should be mostly compatible with other ship stat change mods.
Since I'm not the author of Ship Module Snap Expansion, I cannot guarantee it will be compatible to my mod, but as of Sept 28 10 2023, it was compatible in that all my snaps for vanilla parts where working but flips/rotations added by Ship Module Snap Expansion didn't have my snaps.
Known Issues:
Installation
Archive Invalidation:
Make sure your StarfieldCustom.ini file in the "Documents\My Games\Starfield" folder (or your profile folder if using a mod manager and profiles) contains the following:
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
Requirements:
None, if using Starfield v1. 12. 32. 0 or above.
Recommendations:
- StarUI Ship Builder: This mod arranges the categories in a vertical list and adds some filtering options, both of which greatly enhance usability.
When upgrading
Better Ship Part Snaps adds new snap points to vanilla ship parts in Starfield, filling in gaps where they felt missing while staying within the established grid. It's a quality-of-life mod for ship builders who want more flexibility without breaking the game's building mechanics.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge community trust (2,394 endorsements) — this is a must-have for ship builders
- Fills in frustrating gaps in vanilla snapping, making builds cleaner
- Respects the grid, so your ships won't look janky or misaligned
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects vanilla parts — modded ship parts won't get new snap points
- No detailed patch notes or compatibility info provided by the author
- Last updated April 2026 — may not be updated for future game patches
For Starfield players who love ship building but get annoyed when parts won't snap where they should. If you've ever fought with the vanilla snap points, this mod is a no-brainer. Skip if you only use modded ship parts or rarely build ships.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have the latest Starfield patch installed, as mods can break after updates.
- If you use other ship-building mods, test them together to ensure no conflicts with snap points.
- Back up your save before installing, just in case you want to revert.
