What This Mod Does
This performance patch prevents NPC Map Locations from constantly updating NPC positions when the map isn't open, dramatically reducing CPU usage.
In vanilla NPC Map Locations, NPC positions update 60 times per second continuously, even when you're not looking at the map. With expansion mods like Stardew Valley Expanded, Ridgeside Village, or East Scarp adding 50-100+ NPCs, this constant background tracking causes significant performance overhead for a feature you only use occasionally.
This patch changes that: NPC positions only update when the map tab is actually open. When you're playing normally without the map open, NPC Map Locations is completely disabled, saving 90-95% of its CPU usage.
How It Works
The mod uses Harmony to intercept NPC Map Locations' update methods:
-
[]Map Tab Closed: All NPC position tracking is disabled - zero CPU overhead
[
]Map Tab Open: NPC tracking resumes immediately, showing current positions[]Tab Switching: Automatically detects when you switch to/from the map tab in GameMenu (Tab/E key)
Performance Impact
The more NPCs you have from expansion mods, the more dramatic the performance improvement.
