📋 About This Mod
Organizes custom potions with descriptive icons and names based on the strongest effects. Quality based potion weight.
_______________
"Of Bead and Feather" is born from the idea of the traveling alchemist—the sorcerer, pilgrim, or outcast who brews their concoctions far from the tidy shelves of a Mage's Guild laboratory. Without access to glassblowers, pre-printed labels, or a stable workshop, they must improvise. Potions are mixed in simple clay vessels and identified by the materials that are easy to find and carry: bits of rope, some beads, or fallen feathers.
Initially, I hoped to create a bit of a symbolic language where, for example, the number of knots on the rope or beads or tiny rocks would signify the number potion's magical effects, and the color - the schools of magic involved. Turns out, this level of specificity would require the creation of at least 625 unique models to account for every possible combination in the vanilla game.
So this is a humble compromise: the form reflects quality, the icon colors - magic schools involved.

Avaliable Options:
Quality Calculation Mode
Standard: Uses the game's normal calculation.
Useless Poisons: Negative effects always reduce quality.
Useful Poisons: The weakest effect (positive or negative) is subtracted from the strongest. This mode recognizes that a potion with an equal mix of positive and negative effects is the least useful.
Potion Stacking Options
Vanilla Style: Potions with identical effects stack, unless they have different weights (due to different ingredients).
New Style: Weight is based on quality alone, so they always stack. Weights: Bargain - 0. 8, Cheap - 0. 6, Standard - 0. 4, Quality - 0. 2, Exclusive - 0. 1
Enabling one of the two options locks the bottle & value for any potion you create. If you change the Quality Calculation Mode later, potions you've already brewed will not update, and new ones with the same effects will still use the old, "remembered" appearance and price. Only affects your save.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solves the messy inventory problem for alchemists—no more squinting at generic potion names.
- Quality-based weight adds a nice touch of realism and makes potions feel more distinct.
- Language support means it works for non-English players without extra fiddling.
⚠️ Cons
- Only 44 endorsements—small community footprint, so you're relying on the author's testing.
- Last updated April 2026—could be outdated if OpenMW updates break compatibility.
For OpenMW players who brew lots of custom potions and want a cleaner inventory UI. If you're tired of scrolling through identical potion names, this is a must-have. Skip if you rarely use alchemy or prefer vanilla UI.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you're running OpenMW, not the original Morrowind engine—this mod won't work there.
- After installing, check your potion inventory to see the new icons and names; if they don't appear, verify the mod is loaded in your openmw.cfg.
- If you use other UI mods, test for conflicts—this one changes potion display, so it might clash with inventory overhauls.
