📋 About This Mod
Before this mod, Alma and Erik could casually ride through a Rathalos' flames as if he was just breathing lukewarm air. Not anymore! Handlers can now be knocked off of their Seikret and will yelp in pain like Hunters do!
For a more technical explanation, I used a combination of Lua hooks and .user file editing to force Handlers and their Seikret to take damage. I found out that Support Hunters always have a "SUCCESS" enum for damage interrupts, while Handlers always have a "PASS" enum. I forced Handlers to always use a "SUCCESS" enum and the rest eventually fell into place!
This mod is fully compatible with Title Update 4 (Ver. 1. 041. 03)!
Installation:
1.) You will need REFramework with Loose File Loader enabled and Fluffy Mod Manager.
2.) Extract the mod to your FluffyModManager\Games\MonsterHunterWilds\Mods directory. If you have a previous version installed, I strongly recommend removing it before installing version 2 to avoid any errors.
3.) In Fluffy Mod Manager, activate the "Enable Handler Damage" toggle and enjoy!
4.) If you want to keep your Handler closer to you during combat for more damage opportunities, enable one of the Proximity Options:
Proximity Option 1 (Avoid Monsters): Allows the Handler to remain closer to the player during combat while still avoiding monsters, pre-TU1 distance. This allows more opportunities for damage, but the Handlers will still behave realistically. Same as v1. 2 and earlier.
Proximity Option 2 (Stay Near Player): Allows the Handler to ride very close to the player during combat. Makes little effort to avoid monsters and allows many opportunities for damage!
Additional Notes:
-
[]This mod doesn't make monsters target Handlers.[/]
[]Alma and Erik's pain voice clips were already in the base game. I did nothing but trigger their damage animations. Nicely done, Capcom![/]
[]Handlers will automatically run away and call for their Seikret a few seconds after getting back to their feet.[/]
[]As of version 1. 3, Handlers can now be affected by the following status effects: Bind (Frostblight and Webbing), Deafen, KO (Blind and Stun), Paralysis, Sleep. Handlers will attempt to recover from applicable status effects with items.[/]
[]The Palico's AI does not directly react to the Handler suffering from any status effects.[/]
[]Even if friendly fire is enabled, the player cannot cause any status effect damage to the Handler. (Only physical damage.)[/]
[]Capcom improved the Handler's ability to avoid monsters in TU4. If you don't enable either of the proximity options, you might not see the Handler get damaged as often as before![/]
[*]Handlers take an extreme amount of damage (usually in the 200s) to high rank monster
This gameplay mod for Monster Hunter Wilds lets Handlers Alma and Erik take damage from stray monster attacks. They won't lose health or cart, but they can be knocked off their Seikret and react audibly to pain. Adds immersion and realism for players who want more consequence in hunts.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Adds a layer of immersion without breaking the game—Handlers won't cart, so no risk of quest failure.
- Simple concept, well-executed: physical knockback and audio reactions make the damage feel real.
- Decent community traction with 87 endorsements and nearly 9k downloads, showing players want this kind of realism.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in July 2026—if the game has had patches since, this might not work with the latest version.
- Only affects Handlers; if you were hoping for more dynamic reactions or gameplay changes, this is purely cosmetic in effect.
For Monster Hunter Wilds players who want more immersion and consequence in hunts, especially those who find it odd that Handlers are invincible. Also for roleplayers who enjoy seeing their companions react to the chaos. Skip if you're looking for gameplay overhauls—this is a small, focused tweak.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since this mod likely uses a mod loader like Fluffy Mod Manager, make sure you have that installed and place the mod folder in the correct directory.
- Check if the mod requires the latest game patch—if you're on an older version, it might not work.
- If you're using other gameplay mods, test this one in a low-stakes hunt first to ensure no conflicts.
