📋 About This Mod

GR1 Better Acrobatics

The roll you remember from the original.

In the old Gothic, acrobatics meant you crossed real ground when you rolled. In the remake you tuck, spin, and land about a metre and a half later. It reads more like a stumble than a dive. This puts the distance back — and lets you decide how much.

What it does

Rolls and dodges are driven by movement baked into the animation itself. The mod multiplies that movement while the animation plays, and puts it back the instant it ends. Set it to 2 and you go twice as far, same animation, same timing, same feel.

To be clear about what it doesn't do: nothing else is touched. No stats, no skills, no acrobatics level, no fall damage, no invulnerability window. The animation isn't sped up or slowed down. Your character simply covers more ground during the roll he was already doing.

Rebuilt from the ground up as a native mod. The distance boost is now applied by hooking directly into the game's own animation events instead of polling on a timer, so it holds up cleanly at any framerate with no stutter, even at high multipliers.

Features

  • []Three separate distances. Roll, dodge, and combat each get their own value, so a long exploration roll doesn't have to mean skating around a fight.[/]

[]It only fires on the right animations. Detection is by asset path, not guesswork. Hard-landing rolls after a fall are deliberately left alone.[/]

[]Works with a weapon drawn — the combat sidesteps get their own distance, across every weapon type and skill tier the game ships.[/]

[]Roll on a dedicated key. Bind Roll to whichever key you like (V by default) and trigger it directly — no more fighting the double-tap timing.[/]

[]Left Alt never accidentally rolls. A native guard makes sure spamming the dodge key only ever dodges — roll only happens through your dedicated key, on purpose, every time.[/]

[]Anything can be turned off individually. Want longer rolls but vanilla dodges? Or vanilla everything in combat? Both are one toggle.[/]

[]Live config if you have SharedModMenu. Without it everything still works, you just edit the .ini and restart.[/]

The three distances

  • []Roll — the long forward roll, weapon sheathed. This is the one the mod exists for.[/]

[]Dash — the short sidesteps, weapon sheathed. Usually wants a smaller number than the roll.[/]

[]Combat — the sidesteps with a weapon out.[/]

Combat is a single value on purpose, and it's worth explaining why. With a weapon sheathed the game has a dedicated roll animation sitting in its own folder, separate from the sidesteps. Draw a sword and that folder doesn't exist — rolling plays one of the same four dodge animations a sidestep does. There is nothing in the data to tell them apart, so rather than pretend otherwise I gave combat its own slider and left it honest. Set it between your roll and dash values and it lands fine.

Roll key & dodge guard

Vanilla ties Roll to a fast double-tap of the dodge key (Left Alt by default), which is easy to fumble and easy to trigger by accident when you're just dodging quickly. This mod separates the two cleanly:

[]Roll fires on its own key (V by default, changeable in the .ini), activating the exact same roll ability the game itself uses — same animation, same rules, same weapon-drawn behaviour as above.[/]

[]The dodge key becomes dodge-only. A lightweight native guard sits underneath Windows' own input layer and makes sure a fast double-tap of Left Alt can never sneak through as a roll — only a single dodge, no matter how quickly you press it.[/]

[*]The roll key does nothing while a menu, map, or dialogue is open, so it won't fire by accident while you're navigating the UI.[
