Description
Focus Nearby Pickups extends Gothic 1 Remake’s built-in Object Outliner so nearby usable pickups are visible from farther away while still using the game’s own native outline system.
This mod is designed around one main goal:
make useful pickups easier to see without turning the entire world into a glowing object scanner.
The Lite version focuses only on usable world items such as herbs, ore, weapons, food, loot, and other pickable items. It intentionally does not track chests, corpses, furniture, decorative objects, or every possible interactive actor.
That is the point of Lite: smaller scope, smaller script, less clutter.
Lite Version Code Size
The Lite version is not just “lightweight” as a vague marketing word.
It is actually much smaller.
the Lite script has:
-
[]380 total lines[/]
[]314 non-comment code lines[/]
[]13. 3 KB file size[/]
So yes: the Lite version is less than half the total line count, less than half the non-comment code line count, and about half the file size.
This does not mean “smaller file = magically faster in every single situation”, because actual performance depends on what is being tracked and what is happening in-game.
What it does mean is simple and honest:
FocusNearbyPickups Lite has a much smaller Lua footprint because it focuses on pickups only instead of tracking items, chests, corpses, and extra object categories.
Which Version Should I Use?
FocusNearbyPickups Lite -- Items Only
Recommended for the cleanest and lightest experience.
-
[]Highlights usable pickups only.[/]
[]No chest tracking.[/]
[]No corpse tracking.[/]
[]No broad object scanning.[/]
[]Smallest script footprint.[/]
[]Best choice if you only want items, herbs, ore, food, weapons, and loose loot easier to spot.[/]
FocusNearbyPickups Lite -- Items + Quickloot
Same lightweight item-focused version, with Quickloot support.
-
[]Highlights usable pickups.[/]
[]Includes Quickloot-related pickup behaviour.[/]
[]Still avoids chest and corpse tracking.[/]
[]Still keeps the Lite design philosophy.[/]
FocusNearbyPickups Full -- Corpses 'nd Chests
Use this version if you want more object categories highlighted.
-
[]Highlights items.[/]
[]Highlights lootable corpses.[/]
[]Highlights chests and containers.[/]
[]Includes more settings.[/]
[]Heavier than Lite because it tracks more object types.[/]
If you only care about pickup visibility, use Lite.
If you want corpses and chests too, use Full.
Main Features
-
[]Highlights distant usable pickups — extends item visibility beyond the game’s default interaction range.[/]
[]Uses Gothic 1 Remake’s native outline system — no custom fake rendering, no separate stencil gimmick.[/]
[]Lightweight Lite version — less than half the total line count of ObjectHighlighter_v1 in the compared scripts.[/]
[]Focused tracking — Lite tracks pickups only, instead of scanning extra object categories.[/]
[]Natural handoff to vanilla highlighting — nearby interaction outlines remain handled by the game.[/]
[]View-angle filtering — helps reduce clutter by only highlighting relevant items in front of the player.[/]
[]Toggle anytime with F6 — enable or disable during gameplay.[/]
[]Configurable Lua settings — range, outline behaviour, opacity, reassert timing, and other values can be edited directly in the script.[/]
[]Optional Auto Loot support in supported versions.[/]
How It Works
Focus Nearby Pickups works with the game’s existing OutlineSubsystem.
Valid pickups are registered with the same outli
