# AutoQuickSave

Automatic timed quicksave for Gothic 1 Remake.

Triggers the game's own quicksave (the same one bound to F5) on a timer,

every few minutes, so you never lose progress. Everything is configurable.

## Features

- Automatic quicksave every N minutes (default 5).

- F2 — force a quicksave right now.

- F3 — turn the auto-save ON / OFF in-game, with an on-screen message.

- Uses the game's own save function — no fake key presses, no native DLLs.

- Pure Lua, tiny, and safe around loading screens.

## Requirements

- (https://github.com/UE4SS-RE/RE-UE4SS) installed for Gothic 1 Remake.

## Installation

1. Copy the `AutoQuickSave` folder into:

<SteamLibrary>\steamapps\common\Gothic 1 Remake\G1R\Binaries\Win64\Mods\

so that you have `...\Mods\AutoQuickSave\Scripts\main.lua`.

2. If your UE4SS setup uses a `mods.txt` / `mods.json` list, make sure

`AutoQuickSave` is enabled there.

3. Launch the game.

| Key | Action |

| F2 | Force a quicksave immediately. |

| F3 | Toggle the automatic save ON / OFF (shows a message on screen). |

Both keys can be remapped in `config.lua`. F2 works even while the

auto-save is turned off — it is always a "save now" button.

## Configuration

Edit `AutoQuickSave\Scripts\config.lua`:

| Option | Default | Description |

|---|---|---|

| `interval_minutes` | `5` | Minutes between automatic quicksaves. |

| `warmup_seconds` | `30` | Wait after entering the game before the first save. |

| `test_key` | `"F2"` | Press in-game to force a save immediately. |

| `toggle_key` | `"F3"` | Press in-game to enable/disable the auto-save. |

| `notify_on_save` | `false` | Also show an on-screen message on each automatic save. |

| `notify_method` | `"auto"` | Which UI function shows the on-screen messages (see below). |

| `verbose` | `false` | Print status lines to the UE4SS console (debug only). |

| `save_class` | `"PlayerWidget"` | Which game object the save is performed on (see below). |

| `save_function` | `"QuickSave"` | Which save function is called (see below). |

### On-screen messages (`notify_method`)

The F3 toggle (and, if you enable `notify_on_save`, each auto-save) shows a

short message on screen using the game's own UI. With the default

`notify_method = "auto"` this is detected automatically and needs no setup.

If you ever want to force a specific style, set `notify_method` to one of:

`ShowSimpleTextMessage`, `ShowTopSubtitle`, `PopupText`, `SetStatusMessage`,

`SetHintText`. Saving is independent — it keeps working even if a message

doesn't show.

### `save_class` and `save_function` (advanced)

These two options decide exactly which save the mod performs. Instead of

faking an F5 key press, the mod talks to the game directly: every few seconds

it asks Unreal for the first live object of type `save_class`, then calls

the method named `save_function` on it. That method is the game's real

save routine, so the result is identical to saving through the menu.

Gothic 1 Remake exposes two different save routines. You can choose which one

AutoQuickSave uses:

1) Quicksave — the default (same as pressing F5)

save_class    = "PlayerWidget",

save_function = "QuickSave",

This calls the game's own quicksave. It writes to the quicksave slot, the

same slot the F5 key uses. Simple and familiar, but be aware that each

auto-save overwrites your previous quicksave — there is only one quicksave

slot, so you always keep the most recent one, not a history.

2) Autosave — a separate slot (does not touch your quicksave)

save_class    = "WorldPointManager",

save_function = "CallAutoSave",

This calls the game's dedicated autosave routine, which writes to the

autosave slot instead of the quicksave slot. Use this if you want timed saves

to be kept separate from the quicksaves you make by hand with F5/F2, so the

mod never overwrites a manual quicksave.

Why expose this at all? Game updates sometimes move or rename internal

functions. If a future patch breaks the default, you can point the mod at the

correct class/function here without editing any code. As an extra safety net,

if the configured target ever fails, the mod automaticall
