📋 About This Mod
Incoherent Rambling
When you load a savegame and open the inventory for the first time V is always shown with an equipped weapon. I find that super annoying, especially when you're in a no-combat zone like your own home and can't just equip and unequip a weapon real quick to get rid of the inventory weapon. Actually kills the immersion for me if I'm currently in a no-combat mission. Like with a potential love interest or something.
What This Is
This is a small CET script that runs when entering the inventory and removes the equipped weapon unless a weapon is equipped outside the inventory as well. Now affects vendor menus (including virtual atelier) as well.
This mod has an (optional) native settings switch that lets you configure to always hide the weapon in the inventory instead of trying to keep it in sync with the state outside the inventory. If you don't want to change the behavior or don't want to use native settings UI, you can simply ignore this and the requirement.
The settings is global (as in independent of your savegame) and stored in a small json file in the mod directory. No part of this mod affects savegames in any way.
Known Issues
The act of removing the weapon may actually be visible sometimes, like a very short flicker when V changes stances. I consider this a non-issue, though.
The script removes the weapon even if you change your weapon loadout in the inventory unless a weapon is equipped outside the inventory. Since there is hardly any time I want to see the weapon in the inventory, I couldn't be bothered to change that behavior.
Compatibility
Should be compatible with everything that doesn't do its own shenanigans upon entering the inventory.
Installation
Just drop the contents of the zip file into your game's root folder like a caveperson or use a mod manager of your choice.

📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 664 endorsements and over 314k downloads.
- Does exactly what it says—no bloat, just removes that annoying default weapon.
- Actively maintained, last updated March 2026.
⚠️ Cons
- Very niche—if you don't mind the default weapon, this mod does nothing for you.
- Compatibility with other inventory or equipment mods is unverified.
For players who hate starting a save with a default weapon cluttering their inventory. If you're a purist who wants full control over your loadout from the get-go, this is for you. Skip if you don't care about that starting weapon.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a simple mod, just drop the files into your mod folder or use your mod manager—no special setup.
- If you use other inventory mods, test this one in a new save to ensure no conflicts.
- Load order shouldn't matter for this tweak, but placing it last can't hurt.
