📋 About This Mod

I've got a great pleasure to present it - a total overhaul of the Wraiths of Quiet Hamlet adventure that was included in the 1.5 patch. An adventure I always remember fondly - I fully recommend to play it, as for players who have never

The adventure was created in the short stories style, which means a neverending road ahead and getting into new adventures for the White Wolf. Wraiths... has a very immersive atmosphere, I can only wish it had been longer.

But it wasn't perfect - it has suffered for years mainly from the text errors, both in English and Polish, the latter being the language it was created in.

Out of respect for the effort and passion put into the adventure by its creators, I decided to do something about it, to make it fully shine after so many years.

As the priority, I didn't change things I didn't have to - in order to preserve the original intent. So, the plots, characters, etc. are all the same - but now all the text should be more immersive and consistent, in both supported localisations. Having to edit basically every line of the text was a challenge, but one I enjoyed. For the Pao Kai team and the players - a new opportunity to return to Quiet Hamlet, or to see it for the first time.

I admit, after more extensive modules like And a Curse, and Love, and Betrayal or The Crossroads, Wraiths of Quiet Hamlet has always been my favourite. Perhaps it's thanks to the mod's unique soundtrack, composed by James Semple. There is something in the main track that has always drawn me back to Quiet Hamlet.

Features:

- it was a great effort, but I managed to completely overhaul and improve the two language versions the mod was originally in: English and Polish, by working on every single line of text, looking for errors, oversights or inconsistencies. The scope of it can only be truly shown after comparing the vanilla version and mine. Countless corrections and improvements, in order to eliminate as many errors I could possibly find

- all instances of e.g. "I will give you 20 orens" in dialogues or journal entries were changed to more immersive "I will give you twenty orens"

- improved some quests' names by reworking them to something unique or adding a reference

- improved the mod's description. There was such thing: the Polish description contained text not found in the English one, and vice versa, the English one had a paragraph the PL version did not have... Now both versions contain all of it, properly translated

- expanded the stylised language of some characters, such as Granny's

- fallen opponents will not disappear after combat. I enabled the feature for this adventure, and disabled non-corporeal opponents from leaving blood stains

What's more, if you like Wraiths of Quiet Hamlet and perhaps wish to see something like this again... Who said it's not possible? If you have an interesting idea for a Witcher 1 adventure, we can make it happen. The first game's engine is unique, and thanks to this, it gives Geralt's adventures such one of a kind atmosphere. Its graphics and possibilities can't be as flashy as those of modern engines, but it all has a soul. And with this soul in mind, I think it's worth to create a new adventure - if you are interested, I'm available on PM.

Installation:

First, backup the original adventure, just in case.

Install upiory.adv in Documents/The Witcher (where the adventures are stored, not the folder with saves)

Optional (1. 2) One On The Back file:

Installing modifications for the standalone adventures is different from modding the main campaign. it's not enough to put files into Data/Override. Read carefully:

Every player should have the D'jinni editor (installed during the game installation) in their main game folder, even if it's not planned to actively use it.

1) open djinni!.exe in The Witcher/System

2) left upper corner, click open module, choose upiory.adv (Wraiths of Quiet Hamlet)

3) when it loads, put my files (they have to be loose, without folders) into Users/User/Appdata/Local/The Witcher/temp/_ResourcesUnpackTmp, press yes when it asks to replace the files

4) if the "save module" option is greyed out, you must fool the editor with adding a change in it. So, click a file and remove/add one letter in any text, save, then revert. Now you'll be able to save the module with my fixes in it

Uninstallation:

Remove from the folder
