📋 About This Mod
Description:
Shani needs help fighting an epidemic of a new, unknown sickness. But what could a monster slayer possibly do about a medical problem?
This new adventure for The Witcher 1 has several different possible endings, depending on which choices you make while playing. Three choices each have consequences, and which ending you get depends on the combination of choices.
Geralt has monsters to kill, human lives to save, a mystery to solve, and witcher contracts to fulfill. There are also some ladies to woo, though all but one of those are optional. :-)
12 quests (only 11 of which can be completed in any one game, since two of them are mutually exclusive)
45 NPC's, all of which have names and conversations of their own. There's no one in this game who's named "Peasant" or "Townswoman," and no two conversations are identical -- all 45 of them have something different to say!
18 explorable areas plus three special areas, with 19 new loading screens
40 monsters to kill
6 sex cards to get, including one new one and 5 recolored ones
Many, many recolors of clothes, items, and even some areas
Several new items
Several hours of gameplay (Most players take 5 - 6 hours to finish the game, though a few players have finished in as little as 3 hours and others have taken as long as 16.)
About "Medical Problems 1" and "Medical Problems 2:"
The file on this page is "Medical Problems 1: The Village Mystery." Does that mean that you'll have to play "Medical Problems 2: The Witcher Disease" when you finish this one?
Short answer: No. :-)
Longer answer: The mystery of what's happening in Riverford is solved by the end of MP1. Everything that's happening in the village is wrapped up and done by the end of MP1. The sequel is set up by the events that happen during the last few minutes of MP1. But you'll have finished what you came to Riverford to do, and the mystery will be solved.
Of course, I hope you will play MP2 -- that's why I set up the sequel, after all. :-) But you don't have to. MP1 is more or less complete on its own.
In addition to the adventure file, "Medical Problems" also comes with four text files (which are also available online at http://corylea.com/):
1. An installation manual
2. A hint sheet
3. A list of cool things to be sure to see
4. A walkthrough
Installation for Windows 10 or 11
1. Copy the .adv file to C:\Users\Public\Documents\The Witcher.
2. The first time you start the game, go to the Options panel, to the Game Options tab and make sure that the "Subtitles" option is checked.
3. Also on the Options panel, also go to the Advanced Options tab and set "Grass Quality" to "Off." (This is because in "Medical Problems," the grass was burned and trampled during a recent battle, but I don't control the grass length, YOU do. For the grass length to be consistent with the story, "Grass Quality" needs to be set to "Off.")
4. If the language in which you play The Witcher is not already set to English, please set it to English before starting up the adventure, or you'll get a bizarre error message.
5. If you use mods with the main game, please remove those mods before playing this adventure. Mods made for the main game will cause adventures to function incorrectly or to look weird. You can have your mods back when you're done playing the adventure. :-) Remember to remove not just your Override folder but also any folders for mods like Full Combat Rebalance or Rise of the White Wolf, which install folders of their own.
6. Known issues: Not only will my NPC's talk to you, but many of them also talk to one another. Unfortunately, you can't interrupt them while they're talking to each other; that's just the way things work. So, if you need to talk to, say, Elizabeth, and she's talking to Will or Maria, just wait until their conversation is finished, and then click on her -- it isn't a bug if a character won't talk to you while s/he's in the middle of a conversation with another NPC. (If the game engine has initiated an NPC-to-NPC conversation, you can't interrupt them even if words haven't yet started appearing above their heads. This is a feature of the game engine, not a bug in "Medical Problems 1.")
7. If you like "Medical Problems 1," I'd love to hear what you like about it! You can send comments to medicalproblemsquiz "at" gmail "dot" com or leave comments here in this thread.
8. Note that this adventure is for The Witcher; it is not intended for -- and will not work with -- The Witcher 2 or 3.
