Interacting On Horse

Formerly known as: Looting On Horse

As of May 10, 2026, support for the Old-Gen (1. 32) version has ended.

The following interactions can also be performed while mounted on horseback.

• []To avoid conflicts with the interact key, the dismount key has been changed from E to X.

  []To maintain consistency in controls, the key for standing up from a boat seat has also been changed from E to X.

GAMEPAD:

• []Since both the button for interact and the button for accelerating the horse are assigned to A/Cross, the loot window will open if you try to accelerate the horse while there are items nearby.

  Also, if you’re using a mod like Improved Horse Controls that allows you to accelerate the horse without holding down the button, the horse will unintentionally accelerate when you loot items such as herbs that don’t open a loot window.

  To fix this issue, you need to edit the section in ...\%userprofile%\Documents\The Witcher 3\input.settings and separate the key bindings for looting items and accelerating the horse.

  For example, if you remove IK_Pad_X_SQUARE=(Action=VehicleAttack) and change Action=Canter and Action=Gallop from IK_Pad_A_CROSS to IK_Pad_X_SQUARE, you will be able to accelerate your horse using the X/□ button. (Since there is no distinction between light and heavy attacks while mounted, removing one of the two VehicleAttack bindings does not cause any issues.)

  COMPATIBILITY

  • []When used together with Complete Animations Redux or Interface Animations, the animations from those mods will be disabled while riding a horse.
