Custom Controls

This mod is a rewrite of Controller Button Switch; delete that mod, it doesn't work anymore. Valheim now uses the new Unity Input System which is a little harder to mod.

Basic Usage

This mod adds an in-game menu accessible via a button in the top left of the screen, only visible when the settings menu is open.

Pressing the Custom Controls button shows a list of existing controls, with custom controls at the top.

Hovering over a control shows its current keybind in a tooltip.

Clicking a control lets you press a keybind to bind to the control. Note that this only works for keys recognized by the game. I can probably expand that in the future.

Clicking the x beside a custom control removes the customization.

Advanced Usage

This mod creates a JSON file when running the game to the menu, at BepInExPlugins/CustomControls/all_controls.json; this file contains a long list of every control used in the game.

For example, it has:

To modify these keybinds, copy this file to a new one called controls.json and delete every block except the ones you want to change, e.g.:

Make sure there is a comma at the end of each block except the last one, and that there is an extra set of curly braces surrounding the entire list, as in the above example.

The most common thing to do is to change the "path" entry. You could, for example swap these two by switching rightTrigger and leftTrigger.

You can change the json file while in game, save it, then access the settings menu to load the new values.
