Tweaks to AnAloner's excellent third person melee mod.
SFBM Fixes
A patch for Starfield Battle Moves (Vanilla Blocking) that gives it hold-to-block, and cleans up some loose frames.
Starfield Battle Moves lets you attack while moving, and that's what makes melee in Starfield feel good. This patch keeps that and fixes what was around it: jittery combos, a timed block you couldn't hold, and head and body snaps at the end of attacks.
What it changes
Combos
-
[]A clean three-swing chain: forehand > backhand > overhead, looping for as long as you keep attacking.[/]
[]Each swing plays in full and moves to the next one in the combo window, the same way vanilla chains attacks.[/]
[]Stop attacking and you go back to a proper idle, instead of freezing on the last frame of the swing.[/]
[]The first swing starts cleanly, without blending in from the wrong attack.[/]
[]Faster, tighter transitions between swings.[/]
[]Your legs keep their normal walk/run stance while attacking, with no more wide block stance kicking in mid-combo.[/]
Hold to block
-
[]Blocking lasts as long as you hold the button: raise, hold, lower.[/]
[]Uses SFBM's own block animations, which its graphs were no longer using.[/]
[]You can move while blocking.[/]
[]Getting hit while blocking no longer throws a punch.[/]
No more snapping
-
[]Fixed the head and upper body snapping to the camera during and after swings, most noticeable while moving, at certain camera angles, or on slopes. Attack animations now turn off head tracking while they play, the same as vanilla.[/]
[]Smoother blend back to movement when a combo ends.[/]
Deflection change
SFBM's always-on deflection worked by keeping you in a frozen attack pose that counted as blocking. That same trick caused the frozen poses and some of the jitter. In this patch, you deflect by holding block, and attacks are just attacks.
Requirements
-
[]Starfield Battle Moves (Vanilla Blocking). Keep it installed and enabled. This patch uses its animations and only replaces a few of its files.[/]
Installation
-
[]Install with your mod manager and load it after Starfield Battle Moves, so it overwrites it. In MO2, place it below SFBM in the left pane.[/]
[]No plugin, no scripts. Safe to install or remove at any time.[/]
Compatibility
Replaces these files:
-
[]Behavior graphs: meleeactions.agx, meleeattacks.agx, hitreactions.agx[/]
[]Animation sidecars (.afx) for SFBM's one-handed player attacks: base, sword, knife, sneak, power and zero-G[/]
Credits
All animations and the original combat overhaul are from Starfield Battle Moves. Go endorse it. This is only a patch on top of their work.
