📋 About This Mod

Overview:

This mod improves Cabot, Kon-Tiki, Viking, and Taiyo cockpits/bridges. It includes aesthetic/functional improvements to the cockpit layout and also adjusts crew slots assigned to each cockpit to match the physical layout. It makes higher-ranked models progressively more capable, adding crew stations and crew seats to appropriately scale capabilities as you progress from base model cockpits to top-of-the-line bridges.

Discussion:

I made this mod as an attempt to improve what I saw as illogical layouts in several of the cockpits and bridges in the base game. For example:

  • []The Cabot "bridge" only had 2 crew seats and 2 crew slots, although at least the 2 crew had workstations. I left this arrangement in the C3 since it's available so early in the game, but in the C3X and C4 I added more crewstations (2 and 4, respectively) to make this huge module a proper bridge.

[]The smaller Kon-Tiki had 4 crew seats facing the pilot, as though to watch him do his job. I reoriented them forward and gave them workpads or workstations so they could be useful.

[]The larger Kon-Tiki had 6 crew seats scattered around either watching the pilot or looking out the window. I placed them logically and gave them workpads or workstations so they could do something useful.

[]The Viking's rear crew seats were oriented sideways and up against a wall. I reoriented them forward and gave them proper workstations. In the 200-series models, I added 2 more workstations, and in the 220 I added a nav console.

[]The Taiyo cockpits only had two crew seats, neither with any sort of workstation to enable the crew to contribute to the mission. I moved them, added more where appropriate, and gave them proper workstations. The "Enhanced" cockpits also got nav consoles.

[]The Taiyo "bridge" was laid out the same as every other Taiyo cockpit, and offered no additional crew slots to match its bridge status. I added more workstations and crew slots to make it measure up, and added a nav console in the "Command" model.

In all cases I adjusted the number of crew slots to match the number of crew stations and nav consoles. Things now make sense. I made no changes to the Ares, Phobos, Armstrong, Overseer, or Magellan cockpits/bridges. I either felt they were good enough or the space was too cramped to make proper upgrades. There is probably room for improvement to the Ares bridge, but I don't personally like it so I didn't waste my time.

Some of you will complain that you like to put furniture in your cockpits. Just know that every cockpit contains a plethora of invisible markers: crew spawn, enemy spawn, scene, prisoner, small item, etc. I've carefully combed through these in my modded cockpits and moved them where necessary to avoid conflicts with the furniture I've added. That's much harder for
