📋 About This Mod

These patches edit the Location or Worldspace data and nothing else. Useful for ensuring mod location tags don't get lost, and maps work as intended. All ESL flagged.

Edits patched by this mod and what they do in the game

Editor IDs are generally not very important to patch on their own, but can be used by scripts, config patches (e.g. KID), and COC (center on cell) teleport commands. So they are either irrelevant or gamebreaking.

Location tags are often used to call up events, quests, status changes, dialogues, or UI text that depend on your character being in a certain place. If they get overwritten, then those effects and events can't happen. This can be incredibly minor, or render the mod completely useless because it never gets to do anything. I usually don't add new keywords here, these patches just forward overwrites and combine different mod records.

Location names. The custom name for the cell. Most of the time, this just means that your save files have the correct location instead of 'Unknown' or 'Skyrim somewhere I guess'.

Marker references (in game markers telling NPCs where to spawn or do things) also sometimes get overwritten, so I've fixed those too when I find them. These are usually pretty important.

USSEP fixes (usually just to water flow, but also some location names, sound spaces, weather, and random location-y things) have been forwarded.

Terrain height data usually only matters for map views, LOD generation, or flying height, so I'll generally forward USSEP changes unless a mod makes more specific changes.

Note: Skyland LOD (Occlusion) can break Flat World Map Framework maps entirely without patching or edits, because the map is trying to use the topographic data and flat world maps have no topography, they are flat!. To fix this, the FWMF patches use FWMF terrain heights instead for the worldspaces.

Usually just loading your map mod last will be enough to solve this issue, but I ran into enough conflicts that I needed to make some patches anyway, and then I found it was easier to just have patches that are sorted automatically after their masters rather than having to keep checking my load order.

Occlusion data is forwarded from Skyland LOD (as that's the entire point of that mod).

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Restarter's Locations and Maps Patches is a compatibility patch collection for Skyrim that edits Location and Worldspace data to prevent overwritten location tags, names, markers, and map issues. It forwards USSEP fixes and includes special patches for Flat World Map Framework (FWMF) to handle terrain height conflicts. All patches are ESL-flagged, making them lightweight and safe for load order.

✨ Key Features

Patches Location and Worldspace records to preserve location tags, names, and marker references.
Forwards USSEP fixes for water flow, location names, sound spaces, weather, and terrain height.
Includes specific patches for Flat World Map Framework (FWMF) to fix map-breaking terrain height conflicts.
All patches are ESL-flagged, so they don't count toward the plugin limit.
Combines and forwards overwrites from different mod records to ensure compatibility.
Fixes overwritten marker references that affect NPC spawns and behavior.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-trusted with 204 endorsements and over 11k downloads, so it's proven to work for many players.
  • ESL-flagged patches are load-order friendly and won't eat your plugin slots.
  • Fixes real issues like lost location tags and broken maps, which can silently break quests and mods.

⚠️ Cons

  • Only touches Location/Worldspace data, so it won't fix other types of mod conflicts.
  • Requires you to know which patches you need and match them to your mod list, which can be tedious.
  • Potential compatibility risk with other mods that edit the same worldspace records, though the patches aim to combine them.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim modders who run multiple location-adding mods and want to avoid broken quest triggers or map glitches. Also essential if you use Flat World Map Framework and Skyland LOD, since those can break maps without these patches. Skip if you don't use many location mods or don't care about map accuracy.
📦 Install:Easy· 5-10 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Check the mod's file list to see which patches match your installed mods, and only install those.
  • If you use Flat World Map Framework, grab the FWMF-specific patches to prevent map breakage with Skyland LOD.
  • Load these patches after the mods they patch in your load order, typically near the end of your plugin list.
