📋 About This Mod
Jed is now updated to version 2. 0 with lots of new features. See changelog for full list of changes. It should be safe to update mid-game.
Jed is now much more interactive and will now talk more to other citizens in Whiterun, with several scenes between him and selected NPCs. Most of the scenes have several random lines so have the chance to be different each time you see them.
The mod will now also auto detect several other mods and Jed will comment accordingly. This feature requires SKSE. If you do not use SKSE nothing will break, you just won't see these features.
I've also made optional patches for integration with the following mods. All the patches are ESL flagged.
Inn-Tegrated NPCs - Oblivion Style Conversations
New Female Guard Voice
Farts of Skyrim
Another new feature is the ability to filter out of some of the less (in some people's opinion) lore friendly comments. To do this, open the console and type set jb1jedlore to 0 - to turn them back on, type set jb1jedlore to 1.
Original Description
Jed is a Nord who's worked all his adult life as a guard in Whiterun. He's trying his best to live out his last few years before he retires by doing as little as possible. His aim is to retire in Riften with his dream woman Hulda.
Jed isn't very tolerant of other races. He's rude and often insults Whiterun's citizens. He has an eye for the ladies but doesn't really like Orcs, Elves, Khajiit or Argonians. He really doesn't like kids.
He is stationed in the guard barracks by the Whiterun front entrance and makes his patrols round Whiterun every weekday. In the evenings you'll find him in The Bannered Mare, flirting with the ladies and insulting every one else, then he's off to bed at midnight.
On Loredas he likes to wander over to Honningbrew Meadery and on Sundas he visits Riverwood and spends a while in The Sleeping Giant Inn before visiting Belethor's Goods.
Jed is designed to treat you differently depending on your gender and race. He'll comment on your outfit (or lack of one) and choice of weapons, he will sometimes offer sage advice on other matters as he sees fit. You can also ask various NPCs their opinion of him and a few of them will comment on his behaviour or appearance if they come near him. He'll also comment on the weather. If you catch him in a good mood he has different jokes to tell you on different days of the week. Be warned, they're not very good jokes.
Jed The Guard Voiced NPC adds a fully voiced, interactive guard named Jed to Whiterun. Version 2.0 introduces dynamic scenes with other NPCs, auto-detection of certain mods (requires SKSE), and optional patches for integration with other mods. Jed has a distinct personality—rude, racist, and flirtatious—with a daily routine. Players can toggle lore-friendly comments via console command.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Well-received with 350 endorsements and over 13k downloads—clearly a popular pick.
- The 2.0 update adds real depth: dynamic scenes with random lines keep things fresh.
- Mod integration patches show the author cares about compatibility with other popular mods.
⚠️ Cons
- The auto-detection feature requires SKSE, so players without it miss out on some content.
- Jed's personality is intentionally offensive (racist, rude), which might not suit everyone's playthrough.
- The mod is specifically tied to Whiterun—if you rarely visit, you won't see much of him.
For Skyrim players who want more life in Whiterun and enjoy quirky, voiced NPCs with strong personalities. It's perfect for roleplayers who like interacting with memorable characters. Skip if you prefer lore-friendly, polite NPCs or don't use SKSE.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you use SKSE, the mod will auto-detect other mods—make sure SKSE is installed correctly or you'll miss those features.
- Use the console command 'set jb1jedlore to 0' to tone down Jed's more outlandish comments if they break immersion.
- Check the optional patches for mods like Inn-Tegrated NPCs—they're ESL-flagged, so they won't count toward your load order limit.
