📋 About This Mod
D&D style multiclassing in Pillars of Eternity
This mod adds a true multiclassing system to the game, similar to the D&D 5e system (i.e. like Baldur's Gate 3, but very different from Deadfire).
Introduction
Multiclassing allows a character to gain levels in multiple classes. A character with multiple classes receives the innate traits from all of them, and is able to mix their abilities and talents.
Every time a character advances in level, they choose a class to level up. They may choose any of their existing classes, or branch to a new class. Multiclassing is not mandatory; a character can simply choose to advance their starting class at every level.
Game mechanics
The XP cost to level up is not affected by a character's multiclassing status. The amount of XP required to level up is always based on the total level of the character. (Total level is the sum of all the character's class levels).
Health, endurance, accuracy and defenses
A multiclass character's base values are the average values of all their classes. For example:
-
[]A fighter has 30 accuracy, 30 deflection, 42+14x endurance and 5x health
[
]A wizard has 20 accuracy, 10 deflection, 36+12x endurance and 4x health - Therefore, a fighter/wizard has 25 accuracy, 20 deflection, 39+13x endurance and 4. 5x health
It doesn't matter how many levels a character has in each class. As long as a character has at least one level in a class, that class is used in the average calculation.
At every odd class advancement, a multiclass character can pick abilities from the class they choose to level up. Ability level requirements are based on the specific class level, not total level.
At every even class advancement, a multiclass character can pick talents from any of their classes, as long as they have at least two levels in that class. Class-specific talent level requirements are based on that class level. Generic talent level requirements are based on the total character level.
The vanilla cross-class talents (Apprentice's Sneak Attack, Gallant's Focus, etc.) are not selectable.
Skill points
Just like single-class characters, multiclass characters gain 6 skill points on every level except level 1 (of each class). So every time a character branches to a new class, they miss out on 6 skill points.
Skill bonuses are based on the original starting class of a character.
Level scaling
Multiclass characters and all of their abilities scale from their total character level.
Animal companion
An animal companion levels up with its owner's ranger level, not total level. If you have a level 12 character with only 1 level in ranger, the animal companion will only be level 1.
Spellcasting
A multiclassing caster has the same spellcasting capabilities as a single-class caster at that class level. For example, a level 10 character with 5 levels in wizard has the same amount of spell levels and casts as a regular level 5 wizard.
Casters don't gain any extra spell levels or casts by choosing multiple caster classes. For example, a level 15 character with 10 levels in priest and 5 levels in wizard has the same amount of spell levels and casts as a regular level 10 priest.
Class-restricted features
A multiclass character can use class-restricted items if they have at least one level in that class. The grimoire slot is unlocked for all characters with at least one wizard level. A multiclass character can pick class-specific dialogue options if they have at least one level in that class.
Soulbound items
If a multiclass character has more than one compatible class for a soulbound item, they get to choose which class to bind.
A multiclass paladin/priest has two sets of favored and condemned dispositions. However, they are independent of each other. The paladin order doesn't care about the deity's values and vice versa. This means that the character's Faith And Conviction won't be penalized for acting against the deity's values.
A multiclass cipher's starting and max focus is based on the cipher level, not total level.
Increased Level Cap (optional file)
If you feel like the 12/14/16 total levels (depending on DLC) isn't enough to build the multiclass char
