📋 About This Mod
Press 1, get the pal in slot 1. Press 3, get the pal in slot 3. No cycling.
The problem
Palworld only gives you previous and next. To reach the pal in slot four you tap the same key over and over, watching the wheel spin past the one you wanted, and if you overshoot you go around again.
Every shooter made in the last twenty years lets you press a number and land on the thing. Palworld does not, and there is no setting for it.
The fix
Each party slot gets its own key. That is the whole mod.
The selection still moves the way the vanilla keys move it — the mod presses the game's own change handler once per step rather than writing the slot number in directly, so the on-screen wheel keeps up, animation and all. It also takes the short way round: the selection wraps, so slot 5 to slot 1 is one step, not four.
If you would rather have the jump be instant and do not care about the wheel, there is a setting for that too.
Main features
-
[]Five keys that select party slots directly instead of cycling one at a time[/]
[]Defaults to 1 – 5. Every key is configurable, and any slot can be left unbound[/]
[]The on-screen selection wheel stays in sync, animation and all[/]
[]Works while sprinting — the slot keys also fire with the sprint modifier held[/]
[]Takes the shortest path around the wheel, so no slot is ever more than half a party away[/]
[]Stops quietly at an empty slot instead of spinning in place[/]
[]Client-side only. No game file or save data changes[/]
Installing
1. Move the vanilla bindings off the number row first.
Palworld binds four actions to the number row by default:
1 — Change Pal (Left)
2 — Change Sphere
3 — Change Pal (Right)
4 — Command Pal
Rebind these in Options → Controls. Otherwise pressing a key fires both the vanilla action and the slot selection at the same time.
Change Pal Left and Right become redundant with this mod, so they can go anywhere. Change Sphere and Command Pal are still used constantly — give those keys you can actually reach.
2. Drop the files in.
Create a PalSelectionDirectHotkeys folder in Palworld\Mods\NativeMods\UE4SS\Mods\ and lay the files out like this:
PalSelectionDirectHotkeys\enabled.txt
PalSelectionDirectHotkeys\Scripts\config.lua
PalSelectionDirectHotkeys\Scripts\main.lua
enabled.txt is an empty file. It is what tells UE4SS to load the mod, so do not leave it out.
Restart the game after changing any setting.
Settings
config.lua in ... UE4SS\Mods\PalSelectionDirectHotkeys\Scripts
-
[]Slot0Key – Slot4Key — one key per party slot, top slot first. Defaults 1 – 5. Set a slot to nil to leave it unbound.[/]
[]SprintKeyModifier — the slot keys fire while this is held as well, so switching works mid-sprint. Default SHIFT. Set it to nil if you do not want that.[/]
[]StepDelayMs — milliseconds between each single-slot step. Default 50. The wheel plays a short animation per step, so raise this if it lands in the wrong place.[/]
[]PartySize — how many slots the wheel has, used to work out the shortest way round. Default 5. Raise it if a mod expands your party.[/]
[]Debug — logs each slot change to UE4SS.log.[/]
Key names are listed at the bottom of config.lua. They are case sensitive: Key. F1 works, Key.f1 does not.
Troubleshooting
Nothing happens when I press a key — check UE4SS.log for lines beginning with . If "Mod loaded successfully!" is missing, the folder layout or a file name is wrong.
The key does two things at once — the vanilla bindings are still on the number row. See step 1 above.
The wheel ends up between slots — raise StepDelayMs.
"cannot locate PalOtomoHolderComponentBase. Wrong game version?" — a game update moved what the mod hooks into. Nothing to do on your end.
Pressing a key for an empty slot does nothing — that is deliberate. The mod stops as soon as the selection refuses to move rather than spinning against the end of your party.
Requirements
UE4SS Experimental (Palworld) by Oak.
Tested on experimental-palworld-6, installed through the Steam Workshop.
