📋 About This Mod
Open the Spellmaking Menu wherever you please, without going to a Spellmaking NPC; through either a keybind or a item. OpenMW 0.49+ only.
Description
Open the vanilla spellmaking window from anywhere - no NPC, no dialogue. Through either a keybind or an item. OpenMW 0. 49+ only.
I'm kind of surprised no one else has made this yet for OpenMW that I can see, everything else appears to be a MWSE mod for some reason.
Installation instructions
1. Extract the Zip file somewhere, e.g. `C:\games\OpenMWMods\SpellmakingAnywhere`.
2. Add a data path for it to `openmw.cfg` (or via the launcher's Data Directories tab): `data="C:\games\OpenMWMods\SpellmakingAnywhere"`.
3. Enable `SpellmakingAnywhere.omwscripts` in the launcher's Content Files tab (or add `content=SpellmakingAnywhere.omwscripts` to `openmw.cfg`).
- Bind a key on the mod's settings page: Options -> Scripts -> Spellmaking
Anywhere ("Open Spellmaking Key").
- Or bind a hold + press chord on the same page (keyboard or controller;
unbound by default). When a Hold button is bound, both buttons must be
pressed together; leave Hold unbound to trigger on the Press button alone.
- Or enable the "Tome of Spellmaking" setting: a tome is added to your
inventory, and using it opens the spellmaking window. The tome record is
created at runtime (no .esp/.omwaddon) and persists in your save; turning
the setting off removes it from your inventory. The tome is weightless
and valueless.
- Optionally enable "Free Spellmaking" to make creating spells cost no
gold - even with zero gold on hand. The spellmaking menu still shows a
price and won't update the gold it displays, but nothing is actually
deducted; your gold is unchanged when you close the window. (Internally,
gold is boosted while the window is open so the engine never blocks a
purchase, then restored on close.) It covers all vanilla spellmaking:
via this mod or through an NPC spellmaker.
Only effects from spells you already know appear. Pair with an "all spell
effects" mod if you want the complete effect list.
