📋 About This Mod
Dangers of Broken Artifacts (OpenMW 0. 49+)
Enchanted items are not inert when broken. When the condition of an equipped weapon or armor reaches zero, the shattered ward tears open a rift, and something steps through.
Installation
Install Dangers of Broken Artifacts as a standalone mod in Mod Organizer 2 or any other mod manager
Add its directory to the OpenMW Launcher
Enable DoBA.omwscripts in the plugins list
The following options are available in the in-game mod settings menu:
Mod Enabled: enable or disable the mod entirely without restarting
Scan Interval: how often (in simulation seconds) the mod checks your inventory for broken gear. Default is 60. Lower values are more responsive but slightly more expensive. (1–300)
Customization
Advanced customization is available by editing scripts/DoBA_shared.lua directly.
Creature names: the CREATURE_NAMES table maps record IDs to display names used in the summon message. If you add new creature IDs, add their names here too.
Daedra tiers: the DAEDRA_TIERS table controls which creatures can appear based on the broken item's enchantment charge. Each tier has a maxCharge threshold and a list of possible creature IDs. Tiers are checked in order, so the first matching threshold wins. You can add new tiers, swap creature IDs, or adjust thresholds freely. If you add a creature not in CREATURE_NAMES, its record ID will be shown instead.
Messages: the MESSAGES table contains the lines shown when a Daedra is summoned. The creature name is inserted at %s. Add or remove lines as you like.

This OpenMW mod makes broken enchanted items spawn hostile Daedra, similar to Daggerfall, but skilled players can tame them. It's a niche gameplay tweak with 16 endorsements and recent updates.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Brings a classic Daggerfall mechanic to OpenMW, adding a fresh twist to item breakage.
- Taming mechanic rewards skilled players with a unique challenge.
- Recently updated (May 2026), so likely compatible with current OpenMW versions.
⚠️ Cons
- Very low endorsement count (16) suggests it's not widely tested or popular.
- No detailed documentation or install instructions provided by the author.
- Only affects broken enchanted items, so it's a niche feature that may not appeal to all players.
For OpenMW players who want a bit of Daggerfall-style chaos when items break and enjoy a taming challenge. Skip if you prefer a more straightforward gameplay experience or don't want random Daedra spawns.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have OpenMW installed and are running a recent version to avoid compatibility issues.
- If you're using other mods that alter item breaking, test this mod early to see if they conflict.
- Keep a save before trying to tame a Daedra, as failure might lead to a tough fight.
