📋 About This Mod
Lua NPC Schedule (OpenMW 0. 50)
Lua NPC Schedule is a mod that introduces dynamic daily routines for NPCs. Instead of standing in the streets 24/7, citizens will now head home or seek shelter in local establishments during the night and in bad weather conditions.
Now modders can edit NPC schedules by providing a .lua file. See scripts/npcschedule/patches/_example.lua. That allows to fix stuck NPCs without changing LNPCS directly.
Key Features
1. Dynamic Daily Routines
NPCs standing outdoors will begin heading home at 23:00 and return to their original positions at 06:00 (configurable). NPCs who shouldn't have a routine are configured in EXEMPT_IDS, EXEMPT_CLASSES, and EXEMPT_PATTERNS in npcschedule_shared.lua. NPCs who provide travel services are excluded. NPCs with quest exceptions are in QUEST_EXCEPTIONS.
Unlike Go Home!, this mod doesn't load interior cells unless the player enters them. That means no save bloat.
2. Weather-Based Behavior
If the weather turns bad (Ashstorms, Blizzards, Rain), NPCs will seek the nearest interior. Can be disabled. Uses Go Home! logic. What is considered bad weather can be changed in BAD_WEATHER in npcschedule_shared.lua
You have to enable go-home.omwaddon for that to work unless you use OpenMW 0. 51 or newer.
3. Safe Places & Reservation System
Unlike some other mods where NPCs simply disappear if they don't have a designated home, Lua NPC Schedule searches for the nearest safe place. The list of safe places can be configured in SAFE_KEYWORDS in npcschedule_shared.lua. You can also add your own exceptions to safe places there in BLACKLISTED_INTERIORS.
Capacity Management: To prevent crowds, the mod tracks reservations. Once a tavern reaches its occupant limit, subsequent NPCs will look for the next available shelter. The limit can be configured.
4. Smart Door Interaction
Auto-Unlock: NPCs can unlock the doors to their own homes when they arrive. Doors are automatically relocked in the morning to maintain the game's security logic. Can be disabled.
5. Morning Batching
The mod staggers NPC exits in small groups. Number of people in a batch and time between batches van be configured.
6. White-listed Exteriors
By default the mod only works in cells that are whitelisted. Can be disabled although it's really not recommended. The list of cells can be expanded in CITY_CELLS and GRID_CELLS in npcschedule_shared.lua
7. Shopping Routine
NPCs who don't offer services can go shopping during daytime.

📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Adds a simple but effective layer of immersion to OpenMW towns.
- Recent update (July 2026) shows the author is actively maintaining it.
- Decent community support with 114 endorsements and nearly 5k downloads.
⚠️ Cons
- Only two schedule behaviors described—might feel repetitive after a while.
- Requires OpenMW, so it won't work on the original Morrowind engine.
For Morrowind players using OpenMW who want towns to feel more alive without overhauling the whole game. If you're tired of NPCs standing in the same spot 24/7, this is a lightweight fix. Skip if you prefer vanilla behavior or play on the original engine.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you're running OpenMW, not the original Morrowind executable—this mod won't work otherwise.
- If you're using a mod manager like MO2, install it as a regular mod and enable it in your load order.
- Test in a city like Balmora to see NPCs moving at night—if they don't, check that the mod is activated.
