📋 About This Mod
A screen reader accessibility mod for blind and low-vision players. Speaks menus, quests, shops and dialogue through NVDA, adds a scanner and auto-walk for getting around, and makes every minigame playable by ear. Works with the full game
Moonlight Access
Moonlight Peaks is a beautiful game that tells you almost everything with a picture. A heart with a crack in it. A sparkle over an icon. A highlight on the tile you are about to hoe. If you cannot see those pictures, the game is not hard — it is silent.
Moonlight Access turns those pictures into words and sounds, so that a blind or low-vision player can play this game the way a sighted player does. Not a cut-down version of it. The same farm, the same villagers, the same minigames.
It speaks through NVDA. Everything it says is also written to the log, so nothing is lost if your screen reader is not running.
It works with the full game and the free demo — the same file serves both.
The mod does not modify a single game file, does not touch your save, and can be removed by deleting one folder.
A note on how this was made: Moonlight Access was written with the assistance of AI. Every feature in it was designed, directed and tested by a blind player, and nothing ships until it has been played by ear — but the code itself was written with AI help, and you deserve to know that before you install it.
Requirements
-
[]Moonlight Peaks — the full game or the free demo.[/]
[]BepInEx 5. 4. 23. 5, 64-bit. It must be BepInEx 5, not BepInEx 6. Direct download, straight from the BepInEx team's own GitHub releases: BepInEx_win_x64_5. 4. 23. 5.zip — that is the exact file, already the right version and the right architecture.[/]
[]NVDA. It is free. Its controller client DLL is included in this download and installs itself along with everything else — see step 3 below.[/]
No other mods are required. Moonlight Access has been run alongside the popular quality-of-life mods — SaveAnywhere, BiggerStacks, StackToChest, StorageAnywhere, ValueAlwaysVisible and ConfigurationManager — every day since it was started, without trouble. If a mod key ever does clash with one of them, the mod writes a warning to the log naming both, and everything of its own is rebindable.
Installation
-
[]Download BepInEx_win_x64_5. 4. 23. 5.zip and extract it into your game folder, so that the BepInEx folder and winhttp.dll sit right next to Moonlight Peaks.exe.[/]
[]Run the game once and quit. This lets BepInEx create the folders it needs.[/]
[]Unzip this mod, then select everything inside the extracted folder and copy it into the game folder — the one with Moonlight Peaks.exe in it. The download is already laid out to match the game folder, so when Windows asks whether to merge the BepInEx folder with the one already there, say yes. Everything lands where it belongs: the mod inside BepInEx\plugins\MoonlightAccess\, and nvdaControllerClient.dll loose in the game folder beside the exe, which is exactly where it has to be — it is the bridge to NVDA, and in a subfolder the mod loads and says nothing at all.[/]
[]Start the game.[/]
Your game folder is usually one of:
-
[]...\steamapps\common\Moonlight Peaks\[/]
[]...\steamapps\common\Moonlight Peaks Demo\[/]
To check it loaded: start the game and listen. If you hear "Moonlight Access loaded", it is installed correctly and talking to your screen reader — that is all the confirmation you need. If you hear nothing, open BepInEx\LogOutput.log and look for a line saying "Moonlight Access is loading": if that line is there, the mod is fine and the problem is the bridge to NVDA, so check where nvdaControllerClient.dll ended up.
To uninstall: delete the MoonlightAccess folder from plugins. That is all. Your save is untouched.
Main features
The mod's settings live in the game's pause menu. Pause the game and arrow down to Moonlight Access, directly below the game's own Settings entry. The menu that opens is fully spoken: up and down move between settings, left and right change the focused value, Q and E move between sections, Enter activates, and Escape puts you back in the pause menu. There is no key to memorise — every toggle, every key, and every sound cue is in there, and the sound cues play a sample as you adjust them so you can tune them by ear. There is a config file, at BepInEx\config\com.moon
