📋 About This Mod

Description

Various changes to UI texts to bring a better readability in English version. This mod is a localization file replacement, no .pak or .lua.

Tested on CL174209 (v1. 0. 5 Hotifx 2).

Overall clean-up of UI texts in order to tidy up awkward phrasing, incomplete wordage, unnecessary contractions and capitalization, and to bring a more naturally sounding terminology.

1 - New Camp’s “Bandits” are now “Rogues” (like in the original). Bandits often carry a hostile/negative meaning to the players in games, while Rogues are a more fitting description as the members of the Camp quite literally “went rogue” against the “default” authority of the Old Camp.

2 - General stat name changes

  • []“Max Health” is now “Maximum health”[/]

[]“Max Mana” is now “Maximum mana”[/]

[]“Edge/Blunt/... Dmg” are now “Edge/Blunt/... damage”. Because “Dmg” is not a word and we have space in the tooltip.[/]

[]“Edge/Blunt/...” stats in armors and accessories are now “Prot. vs Edge/Blunt/...”. This is to remove the ambiguity in the phrasing because it is initially unclear whether accessories provide damage or armor bonus.[/]

[]Hunting skills now plainly state the trophies in their names instead of “Take claws” or other more ambiguous and unnecessarily verbed titles. E.g. “Extract stings” is now just “Bloodfly stings” so player won’t have to rely on the tooltip explaining the skill as much.[/]

[]Added spacing for “sec” and “/sec” for numerical stats, so the stats are no longer awkwardly clamped together. E.g. “10sec” and “1/sec” are now “10 sec” and “1 / sec”.[/]

[]“Swampweed” and “Alcohol” are now “Swampweed (intox.)” and “Alcohol (intox.)” to clarify their actual purpose (intoxication values/levels).[/]

[]“Total restored”, “Heal”, “Mana” changes. When it comes to restoration items, game throws a lot of terminology at the player that is unnecessarily technical, dry, incomplete, inconsistent and just not as descriptive as it could have been. So the changes are now as follows:[/]

[]      “Total restored” is now “Total effect”. Since some items have negative recovery, “restored” is not very correct, and “total effect” is simply better suited for summarizing positive/negative gains.[/]

[]      “Heal” is now “Health recovery” to keep it consistent with Mana (which is a noun) and to be clearer that it describes a healing rate. This however doesn’t fix the “negative recovery” meaning entirely, but it is still better than negative “heal” or “healing”.[/]

[]      “Mana” is now “Mana recovery” - to keep it consistent with health recovery. You might ask why I haven’t used “healing rate” in the previous stat? Because if we are to keep it consistent with Mana, Mana cannot be turned into a “process” noun (like healing). Also, any other form would be taking too much space in the tooltip, which would force the stat text to wrap to a new row, making any mana restoration items to look messy and too cumbersome to read.[/]

3 - Spell types and spell stat changes. In vanilla, we have the following types of spells:

    • []Normal - just cast it once (most of spells)[/]

[]Normal Continuous - hold button to keep recasting at lower mana cost, but also can be casted once (e.g. firebolt)[/]

[]Continuous - hold button to cast continuously, basically channeling (e.g. healing)[/]

[]Rechargable - hold to charge to make the spell more powerful (e.g. fireball, ball lightning)[/]

      Then you have stats:

      • []Initial mana cost - first cast cost[/]

[]Mana cost - regular casting cost[/]

[]Charge mana cost - cost of the following recasts as you hold the button[/]

I believe this phrasing is largely confusing and incorrect and just uncommon, so the following changes were made:

        • []“Normal” is now “Regular”, because Normal also implies lack of “normalcy” otherwise, and it is just unnecessarily specific phrasing.[/]

[]“Continious” is now “Recastable” - as you keep recasting it as you are holding down the button. Why not “Channelling”? Because you are not always continuously channelling spells (firebolt vs healing), so “Recastable” is a sort of a middle ground.[/]

[]“Rechargable” is now just “Chargeable” -  you charge the spell up to get a more powerful version while holding down the button. You are not recharging it.[/]

[]“Initial mana cost” and “Mana cost” stay as they are[/]

[]“Charge mana cost” is now “Recast mana cost” - you keep recasting the spell at a lower cost as you are holding down the button[/]

4 - Inventory category name adjustments:

          [*]“Materials” is no
