📋 About This Mod
FF Dodecahedron (so-named just because I find word "dodecahedron" inherently funny), is a license board/job system overhaul mod, designed with Weak Mode/NG- in mind, as well as unique/interesting gambit setups not normally or easily
Final Fantasy Dodecahedron
INTRO & JOB BOARD OVERVIEWS
Key features:
-
[]Obviously, 12 brand new license boards, laid out in ways that make them extremely easy compare/contrast with eachother, and also extremely fast to re-spec with a little help from other mods.
[
]New jobs aim to have more engaging niches and hopefully enable some more fun gambit setups.[]Emphasis on customizing job combinations with augments to force them into more specialized roles; differences between job boards are mostly equipment/spells/technicks.
[]Quickening locks block a large number of powerful licenses (including all new/custom augments) that significantly affect the way any job or combination of jobs plays.
[]Several ultimate/unique weapons have been adjusted to synergize with the new role/theme of the job that uses them.
[]Nerfed/rebalanced trans-ultimate/secret weapons.
[]More engaging MP management and increased party composition flexibility in Weak Mode.
[]Ability to cap your Experience via a license board augment in Normal Mode, offering a pseudo-middle-ground between Normal and Weak Modes.
[]More options to take advantage of Piercing, Speed, and Vitality formula weapons.
[]More organic progression and difficulty curve; access to Second Board license is gated by various Espers.
- Slightly more flexible Concurrences.
The jobs have been updated as follows:
White Mage -> Eurymancer
Uhlan -> Majin
Machinist -> Demolitionist
Red Battlemage -> Dark Mage
Knight -> Umbral Knight
Monk -> Pyroturge
Time Battlemage -> Onmyoji
Foebreaker -> Destroyer
Archer -> Somaturge
Black Mage -> Stenomancer
Bushi -> Blade Mage
Shikari -> Shadewalker
BOARD LAYOUTS
The boards themselves continue to share certain things:
-
- The Spellbound augment
- 10 Gambit licenses
- All Accessory licenses
- The second Board license
- All Espers
The spatial design of the boards is deliberately intended to be used with LowPriorityCitizen's Multi License Purchase - a mod that is absolutely amazing, but requires that the licenses not be "exposed" (visible via having an adjacent license purchased) in order to get the full benefit; any licenses adjacent to the multiple licenses you purchase have to be circled back to in order to grab them individually and slowly. These boards circumvent that by ensuring that almost all licenses have only two adjacent nodes, making it extremely fast to respec and unlock everything (as in, you can wipe your entire party's boards and re-spec them in less than 5 minutes.)
Almost everything after this point is going to be in spoiler tags because 1. walls of text people may take offense to the idea of reading and 2. there are legit gameplay/mechanical spoilers you may wanna avoid if you're seeking a challenge. This was written as much for my own benefit as anything else, to keep track of everything.
QUICKENING LOCKS
The biggest change that is 100% universal and identical between all boards is the role Quickenings play. Every job has 6 Quickening licenses, and the same licenses are locked behind the same Quickenings on EVERY board. Each job can get 3 of the 6 locks, and there is a LOT locked behind them. They're less like the Quickening/Esper locks in vanilla, and more like major job spec/skill tree decisions; everything on them is passive augments or, less frequently, equipment, so you don't directly miss out on any abilities or gambit options based on what you pick. On a basic level, the jobs are defined primarily by what they can equip, the Magicks/Technicks they can use, and an initial assortment of Battle/Magick/HP lores. Almost EVERYTHING else is locked behind Quickenings. Additionally, Phoenix/Shield Lore 3, Martyr, Inquisitor, Warmage, and Headsman all have 2 additional augments attached to them that are normally inaccessible to the player or tied to accessories. The catch is that you can only get 3 of them, and considering that the same things are locked behind the same Quickenings on every board, even unlocking your second job won't lift this restriction, and as stated before, a LOT of other stuff is locked behind these Quickenings. In fact, the only things the Second Board will open up to you are (maybe) more HP/Battle/Magick lores, and whatever Weapons/Armor/Magick/Tec
