📋 About This Mod

Ride the beasts of Ivalice. Chocobos, wolves, coeurls, saurians, dragons and more, called from the battle menu and unlocked through the Clan Primer. Take to the skies with Wyrms and Divers, the first mounts capable of flight.

Beastrider - Mount System

Beastrider lets the party ride the beasts of Ivalice. Not just the chocobo: wolves, coeurls, horses, saurians, dragons, wyrms, divers, wyverns and more, with over 60 mounts in all, called from the battle menu or a shortcut key, anywhere the game would let you rent a chocobo.

The ride is the game's own. Same controls, same dash, same timer and sprints, and getting off is the game's own prompt. Beastrider only changes what you are sitting on.

How It Works

Open the battle menu outside a town and pick Mount. A list appears with every mount you have unlocked. Choose one and the party mounts up behind a short fade, exactly as if you had rented a chocobo.

Prefer a key? Set Where to summon to Shortcut and the list opens on the key you bind, with no row in the battle menu at all.

The Mounts

  • []Chocobos, the tamed one and the six wild colours, plus the Trickster and a pedigreed parader[/]

[]Wolves, from the hyena to the Hellhound, the Cerberus and the imperial mastiffs[/]

[]Coeurls, the panther, the Ose, the bandercoeurl and the Feral Retriever[/]

[]Horses, the sleipnirs and the nightmares, with the Firemane among them[/]

[]Saurians, from the wild saurian to the Diresaur and the Giruveganus[/]

[]Dragons, the aevis family up to the Tyrant, the Earth Tyrant and the Dire Marks[/]

[]Wyrms, Divers and Wyverns, including mounts capable of taking to the skies[/]

Every mount has its own speed, from the slow tyrants to the swift wolves. The Trickster is the fastest thing on legs.

    Favorite Mount

Mark any unlocked mount as your favorite. Your favorite mount is selected automatically when calling a mount, so you can get riding without opening the mount list every time.

    Flying

Some mounts can take to the skies. Wyrms and Divers can fly, giving them a different way to travel through Ivalice. Flying is only available on mounts that support it.

    Unlocking

A mount becomes yours once its creature is in your Clan Primer bestiary: slay one and it joins the list. The tamed chocobo is always available. Turn Unlock by Clan Primer off and the whole stable is open from the start.

    The Mounts Category

The Inventory gains a Mounts category. Every mount has a card, framed by its rarity, with its genus, class, speed and a line from the Clan Primer. Mounts you have not unlocked yet show as ???.

Epic mounts also have collectible Epic cards, adding another set of cards to discover and collect.

    Configuration

    Mod Config Menu Compatible.

Everything can be set in Mod Config > Beastrider - Mount System.

    • []Mount settings, ride time and sprints (the game's default or unlimited), whether a call costs a Gysahl Greens, whether you can call with weapons drawn, whether you can open chests while mounted, and the mount speed: each mount's own, or one custom value for all of them, from a tenth of the game's speed to ten times it[/]

[]Favorite mount, choose whether to automatically select your favorite mount when calling[/]

[]Flying settings, configure the new flying functionality available to Wyrms and Divers[/]

[]Transition settings, the fade to black on mounting and on getting off, or none[/]

[]Progression settings, unlocking through the Clan Primer[/]

[]Menu settings, the Mounts category in the Inventory, and whether you call from the battle menu or a shortcut key[/]

      []Safety, see below[/]

The Help section on the same page explains each group. Your choices are saved and persist between sessions.

      Safe Locations

Some places have no room for a mount: a mine, a temple, a narrow ruin. The game never expects a chocobo there, and would leave the party outside the map.

With Safe locations on, which it is by default, Beastrider catches that at the call, or when you ride in from a neighbouring map: the party gets off again with a message, and the place is refused for the rest of the session. Turning it off gets a warning, for a reason.
