📋 About This Mod

The new version now only shows the red shader effects on hostile NPCs/Creatures. If you don't want that, stick with the old version.

This mod fixes the Power Armor modification "Targeting HUD". When it is worn by a companion or NPC life forms are also highlighted for the player. In my opinion this is a bug (maybe Bethesda indented this as a feature), and therefore I created this esp with FO4Edit that resolves that bug. So no more highlighted life forms for the player when another one is wearing a Power Armor with this modification (it should also work for mods that add this modification to other apparels)

Installation:

  • []Unzip the archive into your Fallout 4 Data folder. []Follow this tutorial to enable esp.

Technical Details: Bethesda implemented the Targeting HUD modification as a cloak spell that adds effect shaders to all NPCs/creatures. These effect shaders are always visible to the player regardless of who has the cloak spell running. I fixed that by adding a condition so that the cloak spell is only activated on the player.

  • Lightweight and focused—does exactly what it says, no bloat
  • Decent download count (9,197) shows it's been useful to many players

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in 2015, so it may not be compatible with the latest Fallout 4 patches or DLC
  • No detailed description, so you're trusting the title for what it does
  • Potential conflicts with other HUD mods or mods that alter targeting behavior
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout 4 players who use the Targeting HUD (from the Intelligence perk) and find it annoying that it highlights companions or non-hostiles. If you're tired of seeing friendlies glow red, this fix is for you. Skip if you don't use the Targeting HUD or if you're on a heavily modded setup with other HUD overhauls.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you have the Targeting HUD perk (Intelligence 9) to actually use this fix.
  • If you use a mod manager like Nexus Mods' Vortex, install this mod through it to avoid manual file placement issues.
  • Load order shouldn't matter much for a simple fix, but if you have other HUD mods, try placing this one after them.
