Anti-Theft Measures

Vehicle security system in a form of a hacking minigame that starts the moment V gets in the driver seat of the stolen vehicle and finishes their hotwire. You only got one shot at this. Fail and face the consequences!

Vehicle starts the integrated alarm system with continuous loud siren and flashing headlights. Annoying. NPCs react to this.

Vehicle engages the brake lock.  It can still move, but traction is severely reduced with a fair amount of bumps. This is a weak countermeasure that will eventually fail after a short while. Mostly favored by lower-income citizens for its affordability.

Vehicle automatically deflates the tires to deter the intruder from theft. A common countermeasure that is effective enough to prevent theft.

Vehicle may be rigged with explosives that detonate upon breach detection. Choose between instant and delayed detonation mode. Will you floor it and risk decorating the NC streets with your intestines? Or will you try to bail out Michael Bay style? Think twice before stealing from a psycho owner or trying to get your hands on a prized corporate asset.

Vehicle notifies the NCPD. Usually, the NCPD doesn't really care about car theft so this one is reserved to higher-income owners who can keep the NCPD on the payroll.

Private security detail with 3 levels of response. Premium and above vehicles usually have contracted security detail on standby to protect the asset.

Vehicle counterhacks your account and transfers a random amount of your eddies to its owner. Can be found mostly in premium vehicles and above.

Vehicle counterhacks your optics and hearing causing them to glitch erratically invoking partial blindness and deafness making driving and escaping harder. Luxury vehicles usually sport this expensive, top of the line countermeasure.

Upon successful breach, the security system reboots silently (no warning and no sound cue) in the background after a random amount of time (up to 5 minutes). Vehicle can then hack you even remotely. You can escape this by destroying the vehicle. So even if your breach goes through you can never be too sure. Mostly just luxury vehicles have security hardened enough with multiple failsafe circuits.
