📋 About This Mod
The Apex Legends grapple in Borderlands 4: hook onto any surface, the rope pulls you toward it and you steer your path in flight. Punching stays on the same button, with enemy detection under your crosshair.
WHAT IT DOES
In Borderlands 4, the grapple only hooks onto the points the game places, and the whole trip is decided the moment you press: once you are off, you cannot change anything. Apex Grapple replaces it with the Apex Legends grapple:
-
[]Hook anywhere: walls, floor, ceilings, ledges, scenery, anything you aim at, up to 30 metres by default.[/]
[]A rope that pulls: as long as you are hooked, the rope pulls you toward the point you aimed at, and the speed you already had is added on top.[/]
[]You steer your path: during the pull, the move stick (or the movement keys on keyboard) bends your path. Push it one way and turn the camera the other to swing around the point: you aim at one spot and land somewhere else.[/]
[]Jump grapple: while the hook flies toward the surface, you keep control and can still jump, as in Apex.[/]
[]Let go whenever you want: release the button after the hook lands, or press jump. A quick tap gives a full pull.[/]
[]You keep your momentum: however the pull ends, you leave with the speed you reached.[/]
PUNCHING STAYS ON THE SAME BUTTON
In Borderlands 4, the grapple button is also the melee button. The mod keeps both:
-
[]You aim at an enemy --> you punch.[/]
[]You aim at a surface --> you grapple.[/]
[]Up close, within 2 metres, an enemy or anything the mod cannot recognize keeps the punch. A recognized surface can still be grappled up close.[/]
[]Nothing in range --> the button punches, as in the game.[/]
THE GAME'S GRAPPLE IS OFF BY DEFAULT, BUT YOU CAN TURN IT BACK ON IN THE NEW MENU (KEEP THE GAME'S GRAPPLE), IN THE SHOT SECTION
By default, the mod takes every shot, the game's grapple points included: the game's grapple no longer fires. You only have one grapple, instead of two that do not behave the same way.
WHAT IS ON AFTER INSTALLING
Everything except Keep the game's grapple. The default settings are the ones I found closest to Apex Legends, tuned by hand in game over several hundred pulls.
The mod turns itself on the first time you launch the game after installing it.
Open the console with ~, type mods, pick Apex Grapple: the mod's settings window opens. It comes in English and French, switched with the EN and FR buttons at the top, and it remembers your language.
Four sections:
-
[]The shot: range, hook speed, punch over grapple and its range, keeping the game's grapple or not, showing the rope or not.[/]
[]The pull: rope strength, how much speed it can add, how much of your weight it carries, steering strength and top steering speed on the stick.[/]
[]Letting go: hold to keep pulling, arrival distance, longest pull, take-off lift and take-off time from the ground, let go on landing, keep your jump when detaching.[/]
[]Controls: your buttons, see below.[/]
By default, the grapple is on the game's Melee/Grapple button: R3 on controller, and on keyboard whatever key your game options use. If you change it in the game options, the mod follows.
In the Controls section, you can give it another button, separately for mouse and keyboard and for controller:
-
[]a single button, any of them, extra mouse buttons included;[/]
[]or two buttons held together, on the same device. Each one keeps its normal action when pressed alone.[/]
WITH APEX MOVEMENT APEX MOVEMENT
Apex Grapple installs alongside Apex Movement and Vehicle Driving without conflict, and its default settings were made with Apex Movement.
Apex Grapple also runs without Apex Movement, but I tuned and tested it with it.
REQUIREMENTS
The Borderlands 4 Python SDK (oak2-mod-manager). The mod will not load without it: bl-sdk/oak2-mod-manager
-
[]The shot: range, hook speed, punch over grapple and its range, keeping the game's grapple or not, showing the rope or not.[/]
