This mod changes the max Ranks for shards from 9 to 4, making it much easier/faster to upgrade them without mashing buttons or hurting your hands. Since rank bonuses scale from min to max anyway, they will still work like normal at max rank of 4, including yellow shards becoming skilled/white.
In this version I just did it quick and dirty, so I did not adjusted the amount of upgrades per rank, you still need the same types of materials but just less than normal. This is because I was too lazy to manually edit all the numbers up, but if there's multiple requests for it I might do that. But consider it an added bonus that you won't have to grind for Fiend Hearts or Hagenti Feathers as much. :p
