US Army vs. USSR June 1985 Difficulty: TBD (Medium-Hard) Scenario unit size: 1 Battalion + 1 Company Background: The Soviet Motor Rifle Division ahead of our brigade has temporarily stopped and formed defensive positions. The Soviet Division has deployed the BMP-2 Regiment as its first echelon, and that includes the battalion that you will be attempting to penetrate today. Our Division HQ has sensed an opportunity to go on the offensive; therefore, our brigade will attempt to penetrate the soviet first two echelons, then eventually into their rear area. 1) Situation: The soviets have had a few hours to prepare their positions and are likely fortified with obstacles that include mines and wire. They are a BMP-2 battalion occupying the area ahead of you, approximatley 3x Companies of BMP-2, 1 AT platoon, also likely supported by some mortars and aircraft. The brigade has assigned your battalion of 1 M2 company and 2 M113 companies, along with a squadron of the 11th ACR to be the first ones in. You will also have the support of 1x Combat Engineer platoon, 2x AH-1 sections, 2x OH-58 sections, and an artillery battery. 2) Mission: Capture objective Hole, create a clear, sustainable breach and corridor through the Soviet battalion to allow follow-on forces to exploit and attack the second echelon. End state: Corridor cleared of enemy, able to withstand local counterattack, and cleared of major obstacles. 3) Execution: With you as you begin is 1 Armored Cavalry Squadron of the 11th ACR. They bring 2x M3 Platoons and 2x M1 platoons. To support them, the battalion has provided 2x M125A2 Mortar sections and 1x combat engineer platoon. After 30 minutes, the advanced guard of the battalion will arrive, containing 1x M2 Company, 1x M1 platoon, and 1x M901 platoon. After ~40 minutes, the main body will arrive containing 2x M113 companies, 2x M901 platoons, 1x M1 platoon, and a M106A2 mortar section.
