📋 About This Mod
Neutral Engine Tints
This mod changes the Blue, Green, Pink and Red tints of the Argon, Teladi, Paranid and Split engine components to neutral grey tones in an attempt to make them fit better with the large number of paintjobs in the game. No more green engines that clash with your nice purple paintjob, for example. For some engines, especially the L tier and Split ships I have removed or reduced the decals that are often included in the models to give them a cleaner appearance.
This is a new improved and expanded version of my older Neutral Engine Tint mods. Now including support for L, XL and all Split ships. This mod should not be installed alongside those older versions. If you have the old versions please remove them before installing this one.
Many thanks to Egosoft for X4 and the X games in general!
'Probably' FAQ
Q. Requirements?
A. Split Vendetta.
Q. Is this mod safe to uninstall?
A. Yes. Engines will return to vanilla without problems if you unsubscribe/remove this mod.
Q. Would you consider making separate versions of the mod for different ship tiers?
A. Updating, maintaining and uploading multiple versions of mods is very time consuming. Tbh I want different versions even for myself, but its just such a PITA. So, maybe?
Q. Will you update this mod for the Terrans once they arrive?
A. The Terrans have neutral engines already, as far as I can see from the teasers. Thank **** for that.
Q. If I could grant you one wish, what would you wish for?
Neutral Engine Tints is a small visual mod for X4: Foundations that recolors the engine components of Argon, Teladi, Paranid, and Split ships from their original blue, green, pink, and red tints to neutral grey. It's a simple cosmetic change for players who prefer a more uniform look. With 149 endorsements and 7,538 downloads, it has a modest following.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Clean, subtle visual tweak that unifies ship engine colors across factions.
- Lightweight mod with a decent download count (7,538) and 149 endorsements.
- Doesn't touch gameplay mechanics, so it's safe for most playthroughs.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects four factions—Boron and Terran engines are left untouched.
- No updates since March 2021, so it may not be compatible with the latest X4 patches.
- If you like the faction-specific color coding, this mod removes that visual distinction.
For X4 players who want a more muted, uniform look for ship engines without changing gameplay. If you're a purist who likes faction color identity, skip this—it strips that away. Casual modders will appreciate the simplicity.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since this is a visual mod, it should work fine with most other mods, but always check for conflicts if you use other engine visual overhauls.
- If you're using the Steam Workshop version, subscribe and it'll auto-update; for manual installs, drop the folder into your extensions directory.
- Test in a save where you have ships from the affected factions to see the change immediately.
