Play with the original pre-5. 0 skill tree inside the Remastered character menu, keep the new tree and add a few old favourites like Fixative back to it, or choose how the new skills unlock.
Original skill tree (4. 0)
Options > Mods > Skill Tree Reforged > Skill tree
Set it to "Original (4. 0)" and the character menu shows the skill tree from before the Remastered update. All 80 old skills are back in their old layout: five columns per tree with four tiers each, plus the 20 old general skills. Whirl, Rend, Firestream, Puppet and the rest are still in the game code, this mod brings them back into the menu.
Tiers work like they used to. The first row is open right away, the next rows need 6, 12 and 18 points spent in that tree. The tooltip of a locked skill tells you how many points are missing. With the unlock rule set to Free every skill is open.
The tree is stored per save. When you open the character menu and the save still uses the other tree, the game asks before switching. Switching resets all skills and refunds every point, mutagens go back to your inventory and mutations are kept. Say no and the setting goes back to the tree of that save. If nothing is learned yet, the switch happens without asking.
Known limits: the old lock icons next to each tier are not shown, locked rows are dimmed instead. Flood of Anger only raises sign skills of the new tree while it lasts, so old sign skills keep their own level. Switch back to Remastered before uninstalling, otherwise the points in old skills stay stuck until you use a Potion of Clearance.
Hybrid tree (5. 0 + 4. 0)
Options > Mods > Skill Tree Reforged > Skill tree
Set it to "Hybrid (5. 0 + 4. 0)" to keep the whole Remastered tree and get a few old skills back on top. They sit in free spots of the new tree and hang off a Remastered skill, so you buy that one first. Only old skills that still work in the game code and don't overlap with a new skill are included:
-
[]Combat: Crushing Blows (after Strength Training), Precise Blows (after Muscle Memory), and the old Crippling Strikes with bleeding (after the new Crippling Strike)[/]
[]Signs: Quen Discharge (after Fortify Signs)[/]
[]Alchemy: Heightened Tolerance (after Toxic Shock), Fixative (after Protective Coating), Killing Spree (after Debilitating Poison)[/]
[]General: Gorged on Power (after Adrenaline Burst), Heavy Artillery (after Advanced Pyrotechnics)[/]
The unlock rules below work as usual, in Classic the extra skills use the tier of the row they sit in. Switching from Remastered to Hybrid never resets anything. Switching away while you own one of the old skills asks first, like the original tree.
Unlock rules for the new tree
Options > Mods > Skill Tree Reforged > Unlocking
-
[]Remastered: unchanged game behaviour. This is the default, so installing the mod changes nothing until you pick another rule or tree.[/]
[]Classic: prerequisites are ignored and each tree opens up in tiers. The top two rows are available right away, every further tier needs 6 more points spent in that tree (6, 12, 18, 24). General skills unlock by their distance from the centre column.[/]
[]Flexible: a skill opens up if you own one of its prerequisites or if you have spent enough points in the tree for its tier, whichever comes first.[/]
[]Free: everything can be learned as long as you have the points.[/]
Points per tree are counted from the ranks you own, so they stay right after loading a save or using a Potion of Clearance. Skill costs, ranks and the number of points you get are not touched.
You can change the rule at any time. Nothing you already learned is removed. If you learned something under a looser rule and switch back to a stricter one, the skill menu shows it in red because its requirement is missing. It keeps working, you just can't buy more ranks until the requirement is met.
Free respecs (optional)
Options > Mods > Skill Tree Reforged > Respec
With "Keep Potion of Clearance after use" turned on, drinking a Potion of Clearance resets your skills as usual but the potion stays in your inventory. Off by default. Mutations and the Potion of Restoration are not affected.
Want the old alchemy rules too? Alchemy Reforged brings back the pre-5. 0 alchemy bonus, the old Delayed Recovery and full Cluster Bomb damage, and fixes wrong alchemy tooltips. Both mods work on their own and together.
Menu texts are in English, German, Polish, Russia
