📋 About This Mod
This mod is no longer usefull, a better version has been created at: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/7122?tab=posts&BH=0
Purpose of this mod?
It's just a little mod that increases the display distance of NPC stuff (main, secondary, crowd and horses for vanilla and the two DLC) by stuff i mean armor, weapon, work item, specularity of the plate armor, tattoo etc.... it also increase the distance of load of monster (not all for compatibility with brutal blood) and animals
(not all for compatibility with modA_HDReworkedProject and modaHDBirds_v12)
Because it annoys me to see the armor of the Redanian soldier who was not complete with a metal reflections that only appear very slowly, same for the Nilfgaardian officers helmets and the body tattoos on the harbor of Novigraad. So Basically the mod allows to display the armor of the NPC at the same time as their head is displayed (this avoids having heads alone who walks in front of us). But be careful, the mod does not increase the loading speeds of the textures. When a texture remains cloudy even when you're right in front of the characters,it's a loading speed problem, not a display distance problem. The mod does not increase the display distance of NPC, just the display distance of their body and stuff. There are however some NPC armor and
weapon WHO DID NOT WORK (failed on 10% of the stuff) either because of the problem of corruption on the perforated clothes and fur clothes (mainly beggar and farmer) or because of conversion problem (impossible to convert the files concerning the baron man from .w2mesh to fbx, if someone can try please tell me if you have the same issue when you try to convert the file).
Regarding to the weapons and the items works, they are subject to the limit of pop in 3D object so you will not always see the weapons appear at long distance but it once loaded it will not depop that when you will be more than 100 m.
LOD NPC is a lightweight visual mod that increases the display distance for NPC-related details like weapons, armor, work items, plate armor specularity, and tattoos. It's for players who notice pop-in and want a cleaner view at range. With 424 endorsements and 11,135 downloads, it's a modestly popular quality-of-life tweak, though it hasn't been updated since June 2019.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 424 endorsements and over 11k downloads.
- Fixes annoying pop-in for NPC details, making distant views cleaner.
- Lightweight and focused—doesn't touch gameplay, just visuals.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2019—may not work with the latest game version.
- Limited scope: only affects NPC display distance, not other LOD issues.
For players who are bothered by NPC details popping in at a distance and want a simple fix without overhauling their graphics. Skip if you're looking for broader LOD improvements or if you're on a newer game version where compatibility is uncertain.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a simple mod, just drop the files into your game's Data folder or use a mod manager if you prefer.
- If you're on a newer game version, test it early—if it causes issues, remove it and look for an updated alternative.
- Pair this with other visual mods that address terrain or object LOD for a more complete improvement.
