December 14, 2022 marked the release of the Next-Gen Update (4. 0) for The Witcher 3. This update brought a host of new features, and more importantly for this mod, a lot of graphical changes. Notably, HD Reworked Project is now built into the game and the beyond ultra settings "rendering.xml" that was once included in HDRP, and required for HC4K, is now included by default with the new "Ultra +" graphic setting.The changelog states that it "upscaled textures to 4K for various characters, including Geralt, Yennefer, Triss, Ciri, Eredin and more." However, from in-game testing HC4K still looks better and crisper than the textures modified by CDPR. On top of that, HC4K modifies all characters, which means if you want a comprehensive texture upgrade then the Next-Gen Update will not be enough.

New installation process
1. Download and install the packages you want from HC4K
2. Launch The Witcher 3 and go into graphics settings
3. Make sure your texture setting is set to "Ultra +" (see additional info below)
Additional information
The performance has been pretty rough for many, and understandably, RTX might not be something you find worth using. However, the "Ultra" setting is actually not just "RT Ultra" without RTX but actually a lower quality setting altogether, think of it as a "Very High" setting instead of a true Ultra setting.
Simply put, make sure that your texture option is set to "Ultra +." Otherwise, the characters will still use 2048x2048 textures instead of HC4K's 4096x4096 textures.
