📋 About This Mod
Here is my first attempt at a mod for the Witcher 3.
Comes in two versions: 1) darkArmor (black and grey) 2) extraDarkAmor (black and extra black)
A dark version of the sword scabbards is available in option. (download darkSword)
Install (NMM): 1. Download with manager. 2. Activate in NMM.
Install (Manual): 1. Download manually. 2. Open the contents of the archive. 3. Create a folder in the root of your Witcher 3 installation called 'mods'. 4. Place the folder in there.
It changes the textures for the starting armor (shoes, legs, torso, gloves) for darker tones. I would have like to change the color of the beginning weapons as well, and that leather string holding them, but I don't know in which texture files they are stored. Swords (scabbards) are now available in option.
I hope you like it.
A simple retexture mod that gives Geralt's starting Kaer Morhen armor a darker, more menacing look. With 902 endorsements and over 25,000 downloads, it's a popular choice for players who want a more subdued aesthetic early in the game. Last updated in 2015, so it's stable for the original release.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 902 endorsements and 25k downloads
- Gives Geralt a more badass look right from the start
- Lightweight retexture that won't affect performance
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects the starting armor – you'll outgrow it quickly
- No screenshots or detailed description, so you're flying blind on the exact look
- Last updated in 2015 – might not be compatible with next-gen updates
For Witcher 3 players who want a darker, more intimidating look for Geralt's starting gear. If you're a screenshot enthusiast or roleplayer who cares about aesthetics from the first minute, this is a quick win. Skip if you want armor that changes stats or if you're playing on a version that's been heavily updated since 2015.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a retexture, just drop the files into your Mods folder – no script merging needed.
- If you're on the next-gen version, test it early – old mods can conflict with the updated engine.
- Pair it with a darker lighting mod to really make the armor pop.
