Franz Stigler Skin

This skin is representative of the plane that Franz Stigler flew when he spared the crew of a badly shot up B-17 as well as escorting it to open waters. The truly remarkable part of the story is when these two former enemies met over 40 years later becoming close friends. If you get a chance be sure to read "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos. Its a great read; and also serves as an example that regardless of flags or nationalities humanity can shine through the grime and fog of war.

There appeared to be some conflicting reference material with regards to Stigler's Squadron markings. In the painting by John D. Shaw it shows a Wavy line. In other sources I have seen the straight horizontal bar which (as JST above has pointed out) taking the date into account could very well be the 'correct' marking. But I personally felt that the wavy line was more interesting and that it was displayed on Stigler's plane at some point so it is still accurate in that regard.
