Description

Addresses a mouse issue introduced with Windows update KB5121003 in Unity games. Mouse movement is stuttering in many Unity games since this update was released, particularly when moving the camera diagonally. Some games are also showing performance issues tied to the polling rate.

I have created two fixes to this problem. They should work for a lot of games, but not all. If you find a game that does not work, please report it. If I own a copy, I will take a look. If I don't own a copy, I may or may not buy one, depending on the price and whether or not I want it.

Installation instructions

There are two downloads. Which you need will depend on the game you are playing.

The MelonLoader / BepInEx version should have a fairly broad compatibility with Unity games compiled in mono. I cannot test them all. It is bound to not work in a lot of them. This version comes with additional smoothing for mouse look, balanced to not feel sluggish. The same files work for both loaders. This version may also improve game performance, as it offloads the mouse handling to a worker thread. This can entirely offset high polling rates. This version may not 100% play nice with game updates. If you can't click things, try alt-tabbing or using the keyboard to navigate menus.

The version that does not require a loader should have an even wider compatibility. This should work for both mono and il2cpp. Again, I can't test them all. This restores native game mouse feel, without additional smoothing.

MelonLoader

Install MelonLoader to the game. Place the two DLLs from the mod into the Mods folder, which should be in your game directory. You may need to launch the game once after installing MelonLoader for the folder to appear, or just make it manually.

BepInEx

Install BepInEx to the game. Place the two DLLs from the mod into the Plugins folder, which should be in your game directory. You may need to launch the game once after installing BepInEx for the folder to appear, or just make it manually.

No Loader

Copy the non-loader version into the base game folder. For Valheim, this is just \steamapps\common\Valheim. If you want to verify it works, press F7 while in game. This will begin a diagnostic that disables the fix for a time, enables it, disables it, then enables it again. The transitions are accompanied by beeps, so you will be able to tell when it is on or off.
