# Forge Chest Crafting

Craft directly from the supplies stored around your base. Open a crafting station, choose a recipe or equipment upgrade, and Forge Chest Crafting uses materials from your inventory first, then from eligible nearby chests. You no longer have to carry every ingredient to the bench.

## What it does

- Uses items in nearby chests for recipes and equipment upgrades at crafting stations.

- Works with ordinary chests. No pipe connection or Forge Pipes installation is required.

- Shows recipes as available when chest materials become ready. The list updates automatically after chest ownership and inventory synchronize; you do not need to switch between Crafting and Upgrade.

- Checks chest inventories only while a crafting station is open, with a cached check about once per second. Materials are checked again when you actually craft.

- Uses your inventory first, then nearby chests. Crafting can consume the last item in a chest.

The default range is 32 meters and can be changed from 1 to 100 meters in `BepInEx/config/night.forgechestcrafting.cfg`.

Only loaded, accessible, public, stationary chests built by players are included. Private chests, carts, boats, and chests another player is using are excluded. The game's normal recipe unlocks, crafting-station requirements, and inventory-space checks still apply. Hand crafting and Hammer construction continue to use your own inventory.

## Using it with Forge Pipes

Forge Chest Crafting is an optional companion to Forge Pipes 1. 1. 2. Forge Pipes automates moving materials between machines and chests; Forge Chest Crafting lets you use those stored materials at a crafting station. For example, pipes can deliver ingots to a storage chest, and you can then craft with those ingots while that chest is within range and accessible.

You do not have to connect the crafting station or its chests to pipes. Forge Pipes chest modes control pipe transfers; they do not restrict manual crafting from an eligible chest. A pipe-fed chest must still be loaded and within your configured crafting range.

If you use both mods, replace Forge Pipes 1. 1. 1 with 1. 1. 2 and install Forge Chest Crafting separately. Forge Pipes 1. 1. 1 still contains the old crafting hooks and should not run alongside the standalone crafting mod.

## Install and compatibility

Requires BepInEx. Install the same Forge Chest Crafting version on the host and every player. Copy `ForgeChestCrafting.dll` to `BepInEx/plugins/ForgeChestCrafting/`. The included config enables the feature and sets the 32-meter default. If you used a custom `ChestRange` in the old Forge Pipes config, copy that value to the new `night.forgechestcrafting.cfg`; the old setting no longer controls crafting.

In-game Start Server is the intended multiplayer setup. Dedicated-server operation and compatibility with other crafting-from-storage mods have not been validated. The brief crafting error message is translated into Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese, with English fallback.
