📋 About This Mod

Fully compatible with Free Lanes update!

Description

One of the biggest frustrations with Starfield is seeing the same POI again in quick succession (looking at you Abandoned Cryo Lab).  This fixes this, by putting  a cooldown on POIs you've visited, preventing them showing up again.  Note that the default cooldown is 10 in-game days - if you're sleeping or waiting a lot than you may prefer the Freelane setting or the Looter setting  which will set them to 30 or 50 in-game days respectively.

Even though Free Lanes has added much better cooldowns out of the box, the older POIs like Cryo Labs and Deserted Relay Station do not have this unless you use this mod.

It works with both planet generation and radiant missions.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You need to actually visit a POI before a cooldown is triggered.  You don't need to clear it but you do need to go up to it.  Then you shouldn't see anymore of them until the cooldown ends.

160 POIs are supported, including 28 added in the Free Lanes update.  I've also added support for the 34 different caves in Starfield - no more going into the exact same cave. (though no new caves have been added, don't expect to stumble across Blackreach)

There is a game setting which controls how long the cooldown is, you can tweak it to your game style.  I recommend and play on either 10 ingame days or 30 ingame days, that usually gives enough time to have a break from some of them, without it being so long that all POIs end up on cooldown; the perfect situation is a balance so that by the time you're down to only a few different POIs, the first ones start showing up again.

There's also a LOOTERS setting of 50 ingame days, which is good if you find that you are waiting to reset vendors or making lots of trips to Venus to wait there.

Finally there's an EXTREME setting - use it with caution as it sets the cooldown to 999 days - once per playthrough.  I'm not sure about removing all the POIs from the mission pool entirely, but if thats what you want to do, I'd love to hear how you get on!

Installation

Either use a mod manager, or copy the files into the data folder of the main Starfield directory

Compatibility

Should run with nearly everything. The latest version of Desolation has a small conflict, put Desolation lower in the load order if that one is important to you.  Includes a script but its pretty light, I don't anticipate any incompatibilities unless someone has done a big overhaul of the way POIs are generated.

No Idiotic Landings ideally needs a patch to run perfectly with this, but again, you can probably run both ok for now.

Tested with Free Lanes update released in April 2026.

Patches for Batten's Wrecks and POI Variations now available on the optional files tab.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

POI Cooldown reduces repeated point-of-interest visits in 7 Days to Die by adding a cooldown timer after you clear one. With 966 endorsements and over 323k downloads, it's a popular quality-of-life tweak for players tired of seeing the same locations. Last updated April 2026, it remains actively maintained.

✨ Key Features

Adds a cooldown timer to POIs after you visit them, preventing immediate repeats.
Specifically reduces the frequency of Abandoned Cryo Lab and similar POIs.
Aims to diversify exploration by making other POIs appear more often.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Huge community trust: 966 endorsements and 323k downloads show it's widely used and appreciated.
  • Directly solves a common complaint—repetitive POIs—without overhauling the game.
  • Lightweight and focused: does one thing and does it well, perfect for modded playthroughs.

⚠️ Cons

  • May require configuration to balance cooldown length with your preferred exploration pace.
  • Could reduce farming efficiency if you rely on specific POIs for loot or resources.
  • No detailed documentation provided, so you'll need to experiment with settings to get the feel right.
🎯 Is This For You?
For 7 Days to Die players who are tired of seeing the same POIs every game and want more variety in their exploration. It's ideal for those who enjoy looting and base-building but want a fresher map experience. Skip if you prefer predictable POI farming or don't mind repetition.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since this mod affects POI selection, make sure to start a new game or reset your explored chunks to see the full effect.
  • If you're playing on a dedicated server, all players need the mod installed to avoid desync issues.
  • Check the mod's config file to adjust the cooldown duration—shorter cooldowns mean more variety but less predictability.
