📋 About This Mod

Ever looked up at the night sky in Starfield in search of something familiar, only to realize that everything is there, but it's mirrored!?

This mod fixes the mirrored appearance of the starfield, which is otherwise accurate, making the night sky appear (almost) as it does in real life.

In the vanilla game, the stars you see from the ground and from inside your ship are, for the most part, an accurate representation of our real universe - save for the fact that everything is reversed. You'd be able to find familiar constellations if you looked, but they'd be horizontally mirrored. This threw me for a loop when I tried stargazing in the game, only to realize that not only was Ursa Major backwards, but so was the entire sky.

With this mod, every star in the night sky is in its proper position. This affects not only how the sky appears from the ground, but also how space around you appears while inside your ship.

Having fixed the night sky, I also wanted to check to see if the star system grav jump ship scanner marker thingy would align with its actual star in the visible starfield. It turns out that it does not, but to be fair it doesn't do that in the vanilla game either.

It's also worth noting that the stars do not align correctly with the galactic plane. The milky way you see in-game is a static texture, and going about aligning it would involve either rotating the graphic within the texture (?), or making more complex, invasive edits to stardata.csv, which I don't really want to do. That's not to say I wouldn't want to fix the misalignment, but I'd prefer a simpler solution if there is one.

Please install using a mod manager. I personally use and highly recommend Mod Organizer 2.

You can, of course, install this mod manually or with Vortex if either are your preference and you know how.

This was done by inverting the y coordinate of each star contained in Data\Space\stardata.csv. I don't think my simple edit should effect anything else in the game, or at least not anything significant, but I do not know what other game systems may also reference stardata.csv, so we can't be sure. Any other mod that edits stardata.csv is not compatible with this mod without granular, manual edits to the spreadsheet.

I still have a lot to learn when it comes to modding. I'd love to hear your feedback and advice!

If you need assistance, I can try to help despite my developing understanding of modding.

I have so many ideas for Starfield and am super excited to learn how to make them all!   :)

Thank you to everyone to who's donated to my mods. I really appreciate it! It means a lot and goes a long way.
