📋 About This Mod
A standalone tool for Skyrim Special Edition / Anniversary Edition that auto-generates a compatibility patch between a road-shaping mod (Northern Roads by default) and *any other mod* no hand-authored patch required, and no Creation Kit
Road Mask Merger
Part One of the Automatic Landscape Project
Quick Note: If you’ve already seen Part Two, that’s intentional — it came out first. This is Part One, and it’s the one that actually merges the road shapes. The two parts are designed to work together so you don’t have to wait for handmade patches anymore.
Series Parts 1 ~ 5
-
[]Road Mask Merger - merges road shapes into any landscape[/]
[]Landscape Seam Fixer - repairs tears between cells[/]
[]Floating Object Fixer - brings floating objects back to ground level[/]
[]Landscape Texture Fixer - blends texture edges [/]
[]Patch Forman- finalizer to combine and audit the others [/]
What Is This?
Road Mask Merger automatically creates a compatibility patch between a road mod (like Northern Roads by default) and any other landscape mod you use.
If you’ve ever run Northern Roads with another mod that edits the landscape, you know the result — broken roads, big cliffs in the road, or terrain tearing. Normally you’d have to wait for someone to make a specific patch for those two exact mods.
This tool makes that patch for you, for any combination, in a few seconds. No Creation Kit. No hand-editing.
Why Use It?
-
[]Makes any landscape mod work with Northern Roads (or any road mod you set).[/]
[]No waiting for patches — if a new landscape mod comes out tomorrow, you can patch it yourself right away.[/]
[]Only fixes the road area — it leaves textures, water, and objects exactly as your other mod intended.[/]
[]Works completely offline using your MO2 setup. You don't need to have MO2 or Vortex running.[/]
You don't need to know this to use it, but this is what it's doing for you:
-
[]It knows exactly where roads are. It uses a detailed road map from ACMOS Road Generator (included) that marks where roads and paths actually run, not just a rough guess.[/]
[]It only touches what was really changed. It checks your road mod against vanilla Skyrim to see where it genuinely edited the terrain.[/]
[]It blends the heights together. Inside that road footprint, it merges the road's height into whatever landscape mod you have winning that cell.[/]
[]It covers the whole fix, not just a thin line. Where a road mod regraded a whole junction or a full cell, it expands to cover all of it, so you don't get half-fixed cells.[/]
[]It keeps it safe. If merging would create a height step that Skyrim can't handle, it expands the road area a bit more instead of writing a broken result. When there's a true conflict, the road wins.[/]
[]It respects existing patches. If you already have a patch like 'Northern Roads - Some Mod Patch.esp', it will use that patch's data instead of the base road mod.[/]
-
[]Just being honest about the current limits:[/]
[]Height only right now — the shape of the road will be fixed, but the ground texture underneath will still be from your other landscape mod. No texture blending yet.[/]
[]Small seams can still appear right at the edge where your road mod has no data at all on one side of a cell border. If both sides have road data, it keeps them smooth.[/]
-
[]Windows 10 / 11[/]
[]Mod Organizer 2 (Vortex and manual installs aren't supported yet)[/]
[]Skyrim Special Edition / Anniversary Edition[/]
How To Use It
This is the recommended way:
1. Launch RoadMaskMerger. UI.exe
2. Point it at your MO2 instance folder.
3. Leave the road plugin as Northern Roads.esp and worldspace as Tamriel if you use Northern Roads — you only need to change these if you're using a different road mod.
4. Point to the your ACMOS road-mask folder. Example: (c:\RoadMaskMerger\Assets\ACMOS-roads)
5. Only tick 'Paths Only' if your road mod ONLY edits small footpaths. Don't use it with a Northern Roads road mod or you'll get a patchy result.
6. Click Generate Merge Plugin.
7. Check the log when it's done — if you see any lines, that's worth checking in-game. Then install the generated ESP like any other mod and put it at the end of your load
