Floating Object Fixer

Part Three of the Automatic Landscape Project

A standalone tool for Skyrim SE / AE that finds and fixes floating and buried trees, rocks, and debris left behind when landscape mods change the ground.

DISCLAIMER: This tool cannot catch 100% of floating items, but it gets you very close. It gets you MOST of the way there, not 100%. Some floating objects sit where there is no safe correction without risking burying a different, legitimate object underground. Review the CSV report before trusting a fix broadly.

Series Parts 1 ~ 5

What Is This?

When a landscape mod raises or lowers terrain, trees, rocks, logs and bushes placed by another mod stay where they were - floating in air or buried underground.

This tool scans your full load order, finds every object whose height no longer matches the real winning ground underneath it, and generates a small patch

FloatingObjectFixes.esp that drops them back down. No Creation Kit needed.

Why Use It?

  • []Works with any combination of landscape mods - no waiting for patches[/]

[]Only moves height (Z), never sideways, rotation, or scale[/]

[]Leaves your mods alone - the fix is a separate ESP you can remove anytime[/]

[]Smart about water - driftwood/logs can sit at water level instead of the bottom[/]

[]Knows what should float - ivy, vines, hanging plants are ignored[/]

[]Works offline with MO2, Vortex, or Direct - you don't need your manager running[/]

How It Works

  • []Checks the real terrain heightmap under each object at its exact position[/]

[]Where it can find real nearby rock/cliff collision, it uses that for better accuracy[/]

[]Only checks spots where your load order actually changed terrain from vanilla Skyrim[/]

How To Use It

  • []Extract anywhere, not in your Data folder. Run

    FloatingObjectFixer. UI.exe[/]

[]Pick your manager (MO2 / Vortex / Direct) and your profile[/]

[]Leave Threshold at 96 and Worldspace at Tamriel - that's the safe default[/]

    []Click Run Detection - makes

    FloatingObjectReport.csv (report only, changes nothing)[/]

[]Click Generate Fix Plugin - makes

    FloatingObjectFixes.esp[/]

[]Install the ESP like any other mod, late in load order[/]

[]Fully exit to desktop and restart to test - Skyrim only loads plugins at startup[/]

What It Doesn't Do Yet

Just being honest about limits, same as the other parts:

This will NOT fix 100% of floating objects. By design the safe default leaves some flagged items alone in the CSV as

flagged, not auto-fixed if it's not sure. That's intentional - a wrong guess that buries a good object is worse than leaving a float.

The two options to push further - Custom Safety Threshold and Force-correct - are OFF by default. They will catch more, but they WILL bury some legitimate objects too. If a run causes damage, turning them off does not un-bury them. You have to delete the old ESP, regenerate, and restart.

Requirements

Windows 10/11, Skyrim SE/AE. Nothing else to install - self-contained.

  • []Finalize your load order first, then generate the patch last[/]

[]Run Parts 1 and 2 first, then this one[/]

[]If you add/remove landscape mods, just generate a new patch - takes seconds[/]

    []Best bug report: a CSV row + in-game screenshot[/]
