[]Vel'dun UI's optional "Vel'dun UI Patches" file by nithog has a gorgeous quest icon that replaces mine, check it out!! It looks so much better!!!! [/]
[]Quest Givers Have Icons - Expanded Coverage by mxdie has a bunch of quest giver data for modded quests as a great addon! [/]
This mod allows NPCs that give quests to have custom quest icons above their head (and removes quest icons when all of their quests are gotten).
This mod DOES NOT DO ANYTHING by itself. It requires pre-configured "QGI_ " prefix .ini files to determine which NPCS have what quests with what prerequisites and whether they are miscellaneous quests or not. However I have included one downloable in the optional files that covers all of skyrim + DLCs but will have mistakes in them, as it's mostly done as proof of concept.
Icon display distance/fade distance and max instances can be edited in the "QuestGiversHaveIcons.json" file located in the SIF folder.
As for the actual mod settings ini file, you are able to directly blacklist NPCs from having icons or set a hotkey to blacklist selected NPCs.
Currently not compatible with VR as of release date because the prerequisite mod required, Status Indicator Framework, does not currently support VR. Please let me know if they do end up supporting VR and I will upload the VR version of this mod.
There are included optional QGI premade files that attempts to add all the quest givers from Skyrim and all its DLCS however it is not fully accurate and will contain errors that need fixing whether its missing quests, having wrong quests, not having correct prerequisites set, ect. A lot of them do work but there's going to be errors.
[]Please for the love of god help out in correcting and creating better quest giver files for both vanilla skyrim and modded ones! No modding knowledge required to create them! These files are made to be as simple as possible to create! Create your own and upload them to Nexusmods!!! Just add my mod as a required mod for your mod so that everything works![/]
[]These files are made to be extremely easy and versatile to create, with a QGI_Sample.ini included to learn how to make them as well as amending mistakes. There can be an infinite amount of QGI_prefix files so you can fix mistakes from mine or other QGI files simply by creating one of your own that loads later (higher alphabet/numerical number) and using the replace/delete features.[/]
[]For example the included optional skyrim/dawnguard/dragonborn QGI ini files can be used as a baseline and you can create your own patches to them easily with custom QGI_01patchforskyrim.ini or whatever you want to name it. [/]
[]Information about quests, editorIDs, quest stages for Vanilla Skyrim + DLCs can be found on the TES Wiki[/
Quest Givers Have Icons Framework is a Skyrim mod that adds custom quest icons above NPCs who give quests, removing them once all quests are obtained. - Highly customizable with configurable display distance, fade, and max instances.
- Includes optional coverage for vanilla Skyrim and DLCs, plus addons for modded quests from other authors.
⚠️ Cons
- Does nothing by itself—requires pre-configured .ini files and the Status Indicator Framework dependency.
- Premade files are proof of concept and contain errors, so expect to fix or create your own.
- Not VR compatible, limiting its audience.
For Skyrim players who want visual clarity on which NPCs have quests, especially those who enjoy tweaking mods. It's ideal for modders and tinkerers willing to create or correct quest giver files. Skip if you want a plug-and-play mod or play in VR.
