DESCRIPTION
Markarth Side Refine is a rustic and faithful NPC appearance package of nearly every character in The Reach.
Markarth Side Refine stays true to the vanilla game and lore while incorporating some of my personal preferences.
Characters have been given appearances to reflect their trade, class, background, and more – backed by in-game literature and lore.
Miners, the sick, and the lame have been given appearances to better suit them. They bear untrimmed eyebrows, dirt, and blue tint-masks.
Service-working women have had their hair tied back. Blacksmiths have been given darker faces to reflect their line of work.
Characters have been made to look younger or older based on the age of their children and community-consensus.
Changes from Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch and Cutting Room Floor have been forwarded for convenience.
However, and in most cases, any mod that edits an Actor record with require a compatibility patch.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 1,134 endorsements and nearly 290k downloads.
- Covers a huge chunk of The Reach—75+ NPCs—so you get a consistent look across the region.
- Standalone means no fiddling with compatibility patches or dependency chains.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2020—might have issues with the latest Skyrim versions or other mods.
- Author's 'personal preferences' might not match everyone's taste, so check screenshots first.
- Only affects The Reach—if you want other holds overhauled, this won't help.
For Skyrim players who want a lore-friendly, rustic overhaul of Markarth and the Reach's NPCs without dealing with complex mod setups. If you're a completionist who loves consistent regional overhauls, this is a solid pick. Skip if you're looking for a full-Skyrim NPC overhaul or prefer more glamorous, high-fantasy looks.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's standalone, just drop the files into your Data folder or use your mod manager—no need to load order tweaks.
- Check the mod's screenshots to see if the author's style fits your game before installing.
- If you use other NPC overhauls, this mod might conflict—make sure to load it after them or use a bashed patch.
